This story resembles something from H.G. Wells' 'The Time Machine,' except here Zack speaks with his past self to reflect on the chaos of changing the past. That makes it different, steering the story down another branch when encountering his past self.

I'm yet to read that book, maybe I'll check it out in the future. The concept of time travel can be really difficult to grasp and I must admit there were many other paths I wanted to tow, but ultimately loopholes as well as watching my word count made me take this path.
