Rita- Prompt Temptation

in The Ink Well3 years ago

As I repeatedly reminded her, money does not provide you with light. If it was possible we would have bought sun! But can we buy the sun?

We were standing in a small valley. Rita was with me. Then suddenly, the sun came out in that valley, as if someone was trying to see us by lighting a torch in the sky. But the weather turned foggy once again.

It was now becoming difficult to bear that scorching wind in the open valley. Rita’s loose hair was flying in the air. Small waves of light, warmth, and fragrance from her reached me and then disappeared into the cold air. Fog was falling all around us. It was time we returned, as we had to pass through the forest. After all, how long can one stay in the open valley? Something similar was said by Rita earlier too, which was there in my subconscious.

At that moment, the smell of dew soaked wet grass emanating from the atmosphere was mesmerizing me. The nearness of Rita was another factor that was disturbing me, as I was not sure what was attracting me more, the smell of dried autumn leaves or the fragrance coming from Rita's lovely body.

This story could be an exercise in setting and dialogue. You demonstrated both with skill. There is temptation, not only the temptation of the body, but temptation to perhaps not report for duty. Temptation, even, (as illustrated in the poster) not to continue a strike.

The tension in the story, the conflict, comes from these separate temptations. Whether the characters succumb or not, is almost irrelevant. It is the mulling of the conflict, the tension, that drives the story.

Thank you for posting this story in response to this week's prompt. You are an active supporter of other authors. We appreciate that very much.

It's been almost a month's hiatus. You're right, I've been busy lately. Back to teaching.

I can only write, but not as better as you :)

Mmmh
Words
Everyday, we face one or more temptations, but we consider the great ones as remarkable.
Well, we're only humans and being tempted is part of our daily exams.
Your writing skills are cool.
