Solace among headstones

in The Ink Well3 years ago

As He sat down to paint, everything else seemed to fade away and blur together, Dad's drinking, mom's death and Brian his elder brother's arrest..

He was woken by a loud bark and the feeling of a wet tongue licking his face, as he sat up, Bruno the stray came in his view as he patted his head and sat up looked around he realised how late it had gotten, he scrambled to grab his bag and head home, he wasn't ready for a tongue lashing(from his drunk dad).

As He walked in the door he could smell the whisky from the doorway, as he tiptoed up the stairs he could hear glasses clink as Dad poured more Whisky as he watched the night news.
As He settled into bed he thought about how much he missed his mom as he drifted off to sleep.

After Breakfast, he packed some granola bars into his bag and headed for the Cemetery
As he walked up to his favourite headstones he saw another figure seated a little further away, sitting down on a headstone he leaned back and brought out his headset and played a play list of his favourite bands, as Metallica blasted away he began a new painting.

He was so carried away he never noticed the shadow until he heard a someone clear her throat behind him, startled he tripped as he tried to run, as the voice laughed gently, he slowly raised his head to look at her and she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
As he took the hand offered to him and got up, she smiled coyly and waved good bye at him as she strutted off, stopping a little while away she shouted her name to him, but the wind seemed to take her voice away, he couldn't find his voice to tell her he didn't quite get it as she disappeared from view.

Pulling a granola bar from his bag and munching away, he played the scene over and again in his head.
As the day turned to night, he headed back home.
Walking into the room he headed for the refrigerator to grab a slice of cold pizza before heading upstairs to his room.
As he settled in bed he vividly remembered the sound of her voice as she laughed, as he drifted off to sleep he thought he heard her laugh somewhere in the streets below.
He was jostled from sleep by the loud revving of a bike from the street, as he sat up in bed, he looked forward to go back to the graveyard hoping he'll see her again(just if he could remember her name again).

Taking a quick bath, he walked downstairs to the kitchen, the total silence meant he's dad had already left for work early.
As he prepared breakfast and ate, he looked around the house and it looked, smelled and felt all strange to him, looking up at a picture of his parents smiling stuck to the refrigerator, he tried to remember the last time he ever say his dad smile, everything seemed to have to to shit as after her death.

Leaving the house to escape the empty feeling he got, he headed for the graveyard.
As he walked to his favourite spot he heard her call mockingly to him, he felt his heart race as he looked towards her.
