Are you alright, honey? | Prompt #53

in The Ink Well3 years ago (edited)

A husband and wife who are driving are now lost in the middle of nowhere. The wife repeatedly looked at the clock on the screen of her cell phone. On the upper right side of the screen there is also an X that is covering the signal marker icon.

The time was already 11.30 pm, while the glare of the sedan's headlights had not found anything other than asphalt and rows of pine trees that lined the left and right.

The trees were immersed in the darkness of the night and seemed to want to attract everything in front of them.

"Looks like we really are lost, honey," the husband took a deep breath and then wiped his own face with his hand.

"Do you still have the gum, honey?" said the husband again.

"That's the last one," replied his wife.

He pressed the gas pedal harder, the car glides smoothly. But there are no turns or intersections in that place. The atmosphere was very quiet.

Their nearly half hour journey felt like a long adventure on a very long and endless bar.

"Oh my God, @#$@&$!!!"

The husband braked suddenly. A flash of shadow just passed in front of their car.

"What's that, Jim?" asked the wife.

The husband was very surprised. He immediately took a deep breath.

"I don't know, honey," he panted. His face was pale. Even under the dim lights in the car, his wife could still see the color of his face turning pale.

"Probably Deer."

The man was still panting. He repeatedly rubbed his chest.

"Are you alright, honey?" his wife asked.

"Yes, I am doing okay."

"Wait here," Jim said,"I'll check in a bit."

The man slowly opened the car door, and don't forget to grab the baseball bat in the back seat of his car.

"Careful, honey," said his wife.

"Just keep an eye on me from there," Jim said.

The man was trying to find out if what had just passed was an animal through the marks left on the ground. But strangely, there was no sign of any animal that had just stepped on the place.

"There's nothing here, honey," said Jim, flashing the front bumper of his car, which also looked pristine.

"This bumper doesn't show any signs of hitting something either," Jim could be heard talking to himself.

"Honey, did you hear me?"

No answer.

Silence.

Jim was initially unsuspecting when his wife didn't answer his words but things seemed unusual because Lisa, his wife, is a woman who is always alert. Meaning, she must have been keeping an eye on Jim while her husband was checking on the situation.

"Honey???"

When checked, Lisa was no longer in her seat. Jim was very surprised.

"Honey?"

"Lisa?—, honey—, where are you?"

Still no answer.

Jim had looked around the car, but still no one was there.

"Honey, please, don't play games?" Jim was starting to get scared.

What should she do? Jim lost control of his own thoughts. He couldn't think right now. Frustration was starting to overwhelm him.

Where's Lisa?

Jim sat on the side of his car and looked around. Everything was dark and very quiet.

"What happened, oh my God—" Jim cursed to himself.

"Ring, ring!" Suddenly, the phone rang from inside the car.

Jim immediately grabbed it because the screen showed that the one on the phone was Lisa, his wife.

Jim was surprised and at the same time happy not playing.

"Oh my God, honey?" Where are you???"

"You idiot!"

"How dare you to left me in the petrol station alone, Jim???"

"Pick me up, right now!"

Jim was surprised by what his wife said.

"B—, bu—, but—, honey, just now—, you—"

Suddenly the phone line was cut from Jim's side.

"Hello? Honey, honey, what's going on? Are you all right??? Jim???" Now it was Lisa's turn to be worried.

Meanwhile, out of nowhere, Jim with his car, was standing frozen. In front of him now there is a creature similar to Lisa, who was currently standing against the glare of Jim's car headlights.

Jim could now see how the shape of the woman's pointed teeth stood out as she smiled widely, and the corners of her eyes seemed to taper upwards gradually.

"Are you alright, honey?" greeted the creature before it laughed in a strange tone that echoed throughout the pine forest.

Quite interesting and suspenseful horror story, also surprisingly written in a short time.

Thank you for sharing that story With The Ink Well, we appreciate your engagement in the community with other writers.

Thank you for the support. Because it was written so quickly, I also forgot that there was an inaccuracy in the use of the word. But, apart from that, thanks for curating it.

Hmm, the creature sounded nicer than his wife on the phone. I wonder what he will do now. Haha

I was waiting for the "All right" thing to make sense, as I thought it was a play on the words, but apparently not. Seems it was actually wrong spelling.

The correct spelling for the word you need is "alright".

Thanks admin @yaziris. I've changed the use of the word all right to alright. Hopefully the edits are correct. And thank you very much for curating it.

SHOOT THE CREATURE SHOOT IT DEAD!!! IT TOOK HIS WIFE!!!!

Didn't expect a sort of horror story. I just thought it was a bird that flew past...in the dark...yes. Sometimes these things happen. Poor Lisa.

Anyway thanks for sharing this piece!

@jin-out | Yes, my friend, sometimes things may happen often. No one knows what will happen to Jim because he is currently dealing with the creature.

How did it happen? Did Lisa disappeared to the fuel station or was Jim in his imagination? I hope Jim wasn´t hurt by the creature similar to his wife.

I also hope the same thing... I can't imagine how Jim's facial expression changes when he sees the imitation being transformed into a much different creature.

Amazing!
I have always loved these kinda thrilling horror stories, well written.

I thank you for your comments and curation. I will continue to learn...
