Jonah and Mary sat in an open field starring and looking at the sky, with Mary’s head on Jonah’s chest they both ate apples. How difficult it was for them to be alone.
despite their undying love for each other, there respective families hated each other, it was said that their rivalry started decades ago. Been the richest and most respected families in Yorkshire England , there paths crossed quite often and it never ended well.
“Do you think our parents will ever let us get married?” Mary asked as she gave Jonah a soft kiss on the cheek. “I don’t need my parents consent to get married to you my dear, but nonetheless we would have to come up with a perfect plan to convince them” Jonah replied . At that moment Mary looked up and saw one of her maids approaching. “ that’s one of my maids ! , Let’s get out of here right now, I wouldn’t want her to snitch on me to my parents”. They both stood up and made a run for it holding hands.
Jonah been the only son and next in line to inherit the family bank from his father, he was at a difficult crossroad. He genuinely loved Mary and was willing to do and sacrifice anything to live the rest of his life with her, he made up his mind to confront his father on the issue.
He got home after his picnic with Mary and was ready to confront his father, he had made up his mind to accept his fate, he made his way through the large hallway of his fathers 18 bedroom castle, a magnificent structure built by his grandfather in the 1800’s, he thought about loosing all this wealth because of the decision he was about to make, but it was worth it he thought. He asked one of the servants where his father was and he was informed he was in his office. Jonah got to his fathers office and met him signing off some paperwork “ hope you’re not too busy dad, I have an important issue to discuss with you” he said. “That’s alright take a sit” his father replied , “hope all is well son” his father asked “ yes sir but I have an important request to ask of you” Jonah said “ and what would that be son?” his father asked. “I want to get married and I have found the perfect girl”, with obvious excitement on his fathers face he got up and made his way to his wine bar, pouring two glasses for him and Jonah. “That’s wonderful news son, and might I ask who this lucky girl is?” With hesitation in Jonah’s voice “ her name is Mary the second daughter of the Williams family” he replied. “ I will never never let you marry from the Williams family son! We have been rivals for decades now , that’s just impossible!, you better have a rethink of your choices or you stand to loose your inheritance” he said snatching the wine glass from Jonah’s hand. “I love her dad and I am willing to give up my inheritance for her sake, I don’t care what you or any other person thinks about it” Jonah replied leaving the room and slamming the door behind him.
That evening Jonah managed to get a message across to his love, they where to meet at their regular spot in the garden. Jonah was the first to get there and so he waited for Mary but she didn’t show up on time, after an hour she finally came, she apologized for wasting time as she had to sneak out of the house to prevent her mother from knowing where she was going. “That’s alright my love, I will wait for you forever if the need arises” Jonah said, “ I finally informed my father of my intentions to get married to you but he forbade it as expected, he told me I would be loosing my inheritance if I went ahead to marry you”. Tears ran slowly down mary’s Face, she was speechless. “I also had a conversation with my mother about it and she also forbids me from getting married or seen anywhere with you”.
Jonah slowly wiped her tears with his hands, looking into her eyes deeply he said “ I will do anything in this world to be with you , even if it means making a decision that will make me Loose my inheritance” “let’s run away together, to a place where we would be free to love each other without any boundaries!”.

A sweet story in the tradition of Romeo and Juliet! Thanks for sharing in The Ink Well, @miles101.

I have some feedback for you. Your story would be much stronger with some editing. For example, if you add some paragraph breaks to break up your long paragraphs, and start dialog on a new line. Also, we have a great resource in our catalog of fiction writing tips called Help for the Grammatically Challenged. It describes how to draft your content in Google docs, which will show you many of your errors so you can easily fix them.

Good luck and keep writing!

This is a story of a young couple at a crossroads. The reader hopes that parents of these young people will put their prejudice aside in the end.
