SACRED

in The Ink Welllast year

His hands were clasped together, he was glad that he had done it. He felt faint, but his inner spirit was drowning in the well of strength. He was glad to have been the adventurer in her forbidden land. The door went ajar, startling him out of his thoughts. He cursed inwardly, it was his mom.
" Why did you go against your promise? Why must you be a rebellion? You took an oath not to wife anyone apart from her, you broke it. You secretly married a lady without my consent. Are you aware that you are my only child? Tell me why you are doing this to me, just look at your condition.", his mother cried hysterically.
Those tears could have affected him if he had purposefully hurt his mother, but he did it because it was his fate .
"Mom, I will die someday. This is the better way and time to die; to die going against your treasured promise, an oath which you took because you were blinded. My spirit will be accepted, fret not. I am no rebellion, I did what I wanted. I knew the consequences and I am of all men the happiest that I did it"
He saw a cloud of shock spread over his mom's caked face. He twitched his face in disgust at the amount of makeup that was on his mom's face.
" You are crazy. Both of you are getting divorced now!" She yelled.
He saw her come in, she's been drained out, but has been resilient to stand by him during this period.
Her sweet words and sermon of hope has been one of the best things for him in his lifetime since he was going to die very soon. He was going to die a happy man that broke a sacred oath. He smirked at that, " what an irony life has presented"
"Perhaps when I am dead, then the divorce can take place, " He said.
"Don't say that, Joel. You are not going to die " she said in her mellifluous voice.
" He will die if he continues to stay with you " his mom snarled and walked away making sure to bang the door loudly.
She came closer to him and sat beside him, her black eyes which drooled at him fascinated him, her full lips made him want to kiss the tense moment that resided there, then.
" What is she talking about? I know that she doesn't like me? Who is she?"
The time is now, he felt his secret chambers tell him. It's time to tell the truth.
" You're what? Joel, tell me that you are joking. You told me that you are an orphan just like me. Joel, you had a mother, you made a fool of my emotions and vulnerability " he saw the river of tears gather in her eyes, and that pained him badly. He wanted to reach out to her face and wipe away the tears- doing that will annoy her greatly.
"I believe you will understand much better when I tell you everything. I really love you and would not want you to feel pain, please. But, I am selfish and I cannot help it. The first time I saw you, I loved and wanted to make you mine, but I was shackled by something sacred, an oath"
He saw her eyes widened at the last word, " oath".
He looked at the face that attracted him and lightened up the desire to own something, love her, cherish her, and be with her.
Before he met her, he had taken an oath not to marry or even have an offspring, this happened on Lola's deathbed.
Lola was his fiance, she died in a ghastly motor accident. Because of the love they shared, Lola made him promise her that he was not going to marry anyone or be a father to anyone, that was on her deathbed. He made the promise, and she made a vow to always protect him in the spirit world. He was able to keep to the promise for eight years, until he met her. It was at a conference, he was invited, and she was the moderator.
Her dark skin complimented the pink corporate gown she wore. She spoke confidently and eloquently. This reminded him that he had not touched a woman for eight years, he had not loved a woman. No woman had appealed to him the way she did on that day. He knew that Lola's spirit would be drunk with jealousy and anger,

but he had to taste this beautiful one.
He searched her on social media apps, he followed her, she followed back. He would always comment on her posts, she did the same.
One day, he summoned up the courage which his ancestors had blessed him with to chat her up. He was a shy guy when it came to trying to get a lady's attention. He began by asking her for a dinner date, she knew him already - she accepted. They went on a date, they discussed and he discovered that they had so much in common; he loved his coffee very hot, searing hot, she loved it too. He was good at painting, she loved paintings and had so many works to her credit.
Their friendship blossomed to love- that was for her - he loved her at first sight. He was ready to lay down his life just to be with her. The oath which he treasured and promised not to desecrate, he was about to do wholeheartedly.
He lied to her that his parents were no more, they would surely never be in support of it. She was deeply rooted in family values, he didn't want to lose her because his parents would never accept her.
He saw tears simmer down her cheeks as he exerted his last strength to tell her the final truth. He saw Lola stand at the door with anger on her face. He smiled widely when he saw a baby beside the one he has come to love passionately- his name would continue, she is carrying his child.
He knew his time was up when he felt the cold breeze of the inevitable clutch his senses. He was ready to go.

Thank you 😊

You're unstoppable @kainene! We'll be here cheering you on every step of the way!

The pacing feels uneven - the backstory about the promise and Lola is revealed late, so earlier parts lack full context. Spreading out that info earlier could help. The ending with the man seeing Lola's angry spirit and his new love with his child is an interesting twist, but very abrupt. More build up and exploration of the supernatural element could improve the impact. Overall, The characters feel somewhat underdeveloped.

Thank you for the observation, I will surely work on that
