Needed but disastrous {CNF}

‎That month wasn't an easy one for everyone living at that area. The transformer had gone bad, and because of that pumping of water became hard. To top it all, the rains ceased, thus making the water scarcity worse. Those who couldn't pump water by themselves had to buy from others, and that wasn't easy for them either.
‎The people with the boreholes sold their water at a very high price. People cursed at them, but that was all they could do as they had no choice. It was either that or nothing.

‎As for my family, we were lucky that we could pump water by ourselves, but it wasn't any better as we had to spend money buying fuel almost everyday for that. We were a total of six in the house, and with just one tank, we had to still manage the water so as not to spend money everyday on fuel. Because of the water scarcity, no one was allowed to use water as they pleased in my house. My little siblings were restricted from playing too much so they wouldn't get their clothes too dirty. The grownups had their bath once, mostly in the evenings so they wouldn't have to bother about sweating anymore. I was the only one allowed to bath at least twice a day because I was the only girl at home, and my siblings, especially my younger brother didn't like it. He always complained that I was receiving preferential treatments, and whenever he felt that I have used more water than I deserved, he'd want to argue and fight over it.

‎One day we almost got into a fight because of the water issue. That morning, I had woken up with a stomach upset though I didn't eat much the previous night. It was so bad that I had to use up the water in one of the big buckets. On a normal day, the water in the bucket was used to bath my little siblings, and wash their clothes as well. But I used it up, and my brother got pissed.

‎"Jane, why not use the whole drum of water? You think you're the only one in this house." James said as I was heading to the toilet for the fifth time that day.

‎"You're talking as if it's my fault that I have a stomach upset." I retorted, glaring hard at him.

‎"No one forced you to eat all that food last night. Now, you want to use up all the water." He said again.

‎What he said threw me off. Last night, I hadn't even eaten much, so how was I supposed to know that things would go bad for me the next day.
‎"James, you better shut your mouth. Did I eat as much as you ate?"

‎We got into a heated argument. Our mother heard the commotion and came down to stop us from getting into a fight.

‎"James, it's not her fault that her stomach got bad this morning. Why are you making a big deal out of it? There's still enough water for everyone to use."

‎"She should've known not to eat at night." He murmured, and returned to the sofa.

‎"Go and get fuel, so we can pump water later in the evening." My mom said to him.

‎"I don't think I can do that, Mom." James replied.

‎My cousin who had been watching us quietly from the start flared up. "What is wrong with you?"

‎"Why are you yelling at me? I'm not the one purging." James left the living room.

‎My mom returned to their room. Later that night, there was a great wind. It was so great that my dad said it might blow off people's roof. Not long after he said that, we heard a scream from the next compound. The wind had blown off their roof, and a heavy downpour started.

‎As we were helping the neighbors whose roof had blown off, my dad received a phone call that our roof had blown off too. We all ran back to the house, and tried saving the few things we could save. I grabbed my school documents, and the other things I needed and dropped them inside the car. My brothers carried the television, and the speakers into the car as well. The rain continued until the next morning, together with the great wind, that blew off the roofs of so many houses in that area.

‎The next morning, we returned to our house from the hotel my dad had taken us to spend the night. The house was in a mess. Our beds were soaked, the walls were still dripping with water. My dad said we were lucky to have taken the television and speaker out of the house before the rain got worse.
‎That day, the neighborhood was quiet, as everyone was busy tending to the troubles the rain had caused.

‎"We've lacked water for a long time. Now, when we finally got water, it damaged everything." I muttered to myself, staring at the mess in the house.

‎My Dad held me close. "Water is needed, but it can still cause a great harm. That's it's nature." He said to me.

‎We managed to fix the house, and my mom insisted that we moved out of the area. We stayed through the remaining months of the year, and then moved to another area.

Omo....
Lack of water is something most of us face, and we can't help but blame even the government about it, see the price of fuel too.

And the toilet part, you sef no do well. Why will you over eat 😁😁.

Sorry for the losses and inconveniences. Water can indeed be a two-edged sword.

When water is scarce, we realize its great value; problems and inconveniences arise because of this situation. Fortunately, the flood did not cause major damage.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Excellent day.

Indeed, water scarcity can be bad
Thanks for reading 😊

See me laughing at the thought of your roof being blown away while you were helping another family. 😅😅😅

But like you said, water is indeed important. 😁 I've often heard people say water is a good servant but a bad master.
