The wordbuilding? Perfecto! Nope, it's rich. I wouldn't be too shocked if this story became an animated movie. You described the scenes in ways that allowed me to picture everything.
And the twist with Lani meeting the Taura porter of the priestess? Yes, it was an unexpected and magical moment but I love how that encounter led to a connection and exchange of stories.
I guess Taura broke her wings because Lani broke her pot while she was dancing. I would say their spirit were intertwined. It was even more perfect that the other girl had a porter too and in the magical realm, both porters were eyeing the position of crowning the next Ekwetè.

Oh my! This comment is absolutely amazing. You know, that relationship you drew in the last part, I didn't even realize I was weaving that until I got to the end of the story and it made total sense.
Makes me think about how connected we are with the forces around us and we don't even know it. Lani and Aya sure created a life out of that even if it was a fleeting moment.
