TheInkWell Poetry Challenge | Dead Dreams

Years; past years had seen him
With a sprightly smile across his face;
No one could have seen life
With a more hopeful set of eyes

Nights; many nights lost duels,
Severely fought against him
But he defied sleepy seductions
To stay woke, working like a bee

Dreams; his dreams were selfless,
Pure wishes for a world rid of gloom;
He had wished for no more than that
But it became his undoing; and now

He is forced to dwell at a junkyard,
Where the brightest stars have fallen;
Amidst rubbles of a shattered will,
The city of the true heroes.
