The Imperfect God

in The Ink Well3 years ago

"You know, most times I wish I could be you. You don't have to bother about a thing."

"Woman, what makes you think that?"

"C'mon, everybody knows this. You can have anything you want and do whatever you want to."

"You got it all wrong."

"You can't trick me on this one, I mean you are the supreme ruler, the only perfect creature in all existence."

Now listen let me tell you a story. You know what they said about the earth being all void and without form before the human, this is not totally true. Before I became God, the whole world was in chaos. There was actually live before the humans, they were called the Hagro. These hagros were not actually created, they came into existence when earth collided with planet Z. After the collision, some particles from planet Z circulated the earth giving rise to the formation of the hagros.

In the era of the hagros, there was no law and order. There was no God, no hell and all these things you hear about.

"Hajika Crachki Hajika"

Kill Or Be Killed, the famous Hagro slang. You do not have to answer to anybody if you kill, or commit attrocities. It was a free world where only the strong survive. You might wonder where was I during these times. I existed, I always have, but there was really nothing I could do about the hagros. I didn't create them, I had no power over them. They were free to do anything they want. But my siblings weren't pleased with this. We loved it when we were the only ones roaming around the earth. We decided to embark on a mission to eradicate the hagros, This wasn't totally an easy task.

Now you call me a perfect God? After my experience with the Hagros, I cannot claim to be perfect. If I was perfect, some people should be alive now. If I was perfect, there shouldn't be war in the nations. If I was perfect, there shouldn't be suffering among the people I created in my own image. Do you know that I cry when I watch the righteous suffer. I pace restlessly in my palace when I realize that a faithful is at the point of death and there's nothing I can do. I frown when I have no option but to pardon killers and criminals and yet the innocent suffer in vain.

After cleansing the earth of the hagros, I created a new world, I needed people to see the things the way I do. The Hagros only knew hate, I wanted to create people that would only know love. Therefore I created the Dovets.

These creatures loved each other so much, that was all I ever wanted. For the first time in the centuries of my existence, I felt a sort of satisfaction in my work. At that time, I would have agreed with your claim of my perfection. But then, I got the biggest shock when I realized that too much of love had it's own flaws

The Dovets loved each other to a fault. They started worshipping their fellow Dovets, forgetting about me their creator. The Dovets felt that the best way to show your love for a person was through intercourse, therefore a father out of love for his son would have intercourse with him. Mother and son, Brother and sister, mother and daughter and several other forms of disgusting practices in the name of Love. I tried to intervene, besides I created them they must listen to me, or so I thought. Instead my intervention brought about jealousy. They claimed I was a partial God by trying to support a certain few because they loved less. This only made matters worse.

I couldn't let this continue, I had to bring an end to the era of the Dovets. Then I created humans. I decided that for there to be a sort of balance in the world, I had to allow evil and good to exist, Love and hate were free to roam the earth, hoping that the humans would Choose more of love. To achieve this, I couldn't meddle in human affairs. All I could do was give the humans an option to choose between good and bad.

This is a special kind of foundation myth, one that has not been described before in exactly these terms. Balance. This seems to be what the wisest seers in history have prescribed for a reasonable life. As for free will: your god posits free will. It is a familiar and yet special universe you describe, and you describe it well. Great application of the prompt.
