It's Friday night, and as usual James and his friends were all getting dressed up, to go clubbing. James was finding it uncannily hard putting on his shoes as his hands were shaking. Nathan, his best friend was standing by the door, and watching as James was struggling with his shoe laces, suddenly he couldn't help, but burst into laughter.
The boys from the next room, quickly rushed to see what caused Nathan's laughter. Nathan was laughing and pointing at James, with a cracking voice, he said, "The alcohol has gotten to James." Earlier that evening all the boys sat together in the living room, and challenged themselves to know who's the best drinker amongst themselves.
They consumed more alcohol than their normal volumes, just to prove a point. Although, James was the most affected, but Nathan and the other 3 boys were very drunk too. With falling eyes, James said to the bunch, "Let's not go out clubbing tonight, we've all had too much to drink already." Griffin, the youngest of them all said, "Nah, we always go clubbing on Friday night. We won't miss it tonight."
They staggered to the car downstairs. Then it came to their minds that James was the best driver of them all. But seeing that he's already drunk, he can't drive tonight. So they started arguing who would drive. Griffin held the car keys, and insisted that he will drive, Nathan got pissed off and reminding Griffin how he destroyed his father's two cars in silly crashes. Nathan continued, "Griffin, you are useless at driving. Admit it."
Griffin got angry and threw the car keys at Nathan. It met Nathan by his eyes, and instantly injured his face. It was already past 9pm, and Nathan couldn't see exactly where the car key fell, so he could throw it back at Griffin, hence he rushed angrily to Griffin, and landed a punch on Griffin's left eyes. They started fighting, as the other guys tried separating them.
"Stopped...," screamed Hannah from her front door. Hannah is their neighbor downstairs. "I'll drive you guys to the club, and back," she said. Hannah has been having a crush on James. But James never seemed to notice her, so she wants to use the opportunity to get closer to James and his friends. They paused for a few seconds, and James said, "Let her drive."
They all got into the car. On their way, Nathan still angry at Griffin said, "You injured my face with the car key Griffin. Just know that our fight isn't over yet." Griffin jokingly said, "If not for Hannah who interrupted our fight, I would have beaten you blue black." Just before Griffin finished talking, Nathan landed a nasty bump on his head. Griffin wanted to punch him back, but unfortunately his hand landed on Hannah's ears, who was driving.
Hannah immediately lost control of the wheels, and off the road the car went. They all screamed as the car continued to move down the sloppy hill. The breaks weren't holding. Hannah managed to bump into a tree. The pressure knocked them all out for some seconds. Hannah hit her head badly. James was first to get out of the car - his drunkenness immediately disappeared. He helped Nathan, and the other boys out.
It was harder to get Hannah out, as the door was stuck. All five boys put their strength together, and broke the door open. Hannah was unconscious. Griffin called for help, and she was rushed to a near by hospital. The doctors tended to all of them, as they all sustained injuries in different parts of their body. The doctor said that Hannah did not get any severe head injuries and that she'll be fine, but James was very worried. Nathan called his elder brother, who drove down to take them back home.
But James insisted that he was going to stay the night, in the hospital with Hannah until she wakes up, and that they should go home without him. The more James looked at Hannah lying unconsciously on the hospital bed, the more he started developing feelings for her.
The next morning Hannah woke up, and saw James sleeping by the side of the bed. She taps him with her right hand. He woke up, and was so happy to see that she has regained consciousness. In the excitement, he kissed Hannah on her forehead. They smiled at each other as he held her hands.
The fighting of the boisterous boys almost got them all killed, but the accident did at least bring Hannah and James together. Thanks for sharing your story in The Ink Well, and for reading and commenting on the work of other community members.
Some accidents can be a blessing in disguise - as it brought Hannah and James together. Thanks for dropping by.
