“Felix, I thought you made me a promise. Why do you keep going back to that filth?” A trembling weak voice broke through the silent warm room.
The fire place crackled loudly as the firewood burned, emitting gas, heat and light for the old fashioned house.
It had all the functionalities to aid an elderly and it didn’t lack the touch of modern day facilities too. An effective house to comfort Pa John while his other married children were away with their families. The widower only got to meet his grandchildren whenever they came by. He never really like the hassle that came with traveling away from the house that exudes his late wife’s memories.
One of his older grandchild, Felix schooled close to Pa John’s house which warranted plenty of visits from the young man to his beloved grandpa. Felix, a good looking young lad in his twenties, schooling in the University of Creamfield always took pleasure in learning the ways of life from his old man, confiding in him more than he did with his parents and sucking up words of wisdom from Pa John.
The young man was involved in an unplanned orgy with his friends in his junior high school days which has antagonized him into a pervert. His love relationships on countless occasions, hit rock bottom - crashing down badly because of how he rolled sexually. An issue he thought would wear off of him as he grew older but only worsened as days went by.
Anne, his current girl, had stuck with him since their prom date even with his condition having it’s visible side effects on her, advised him to seek consolation which he had non other but his grandpa in mind.
“I’m sorry Pops. I’m so sorry for letting you down, despite all your advisement and words of encouragement”, Felix’s sobbing words rang up the room. The remorseful young man continued to sob in between the shaky hands of his grandfather who held him in a consolation embrace.
“You know, my boy, I was once like you in this kind of a state but I had no one to turn to. My case worsened till I met your grandmother, who showed me love like Anne does to you”, the old man said.
“I confided in her and she showed me the only redemption I needed which was a willing spirit. She held me accountable for any wrong move I made and honestly, I wouldn’t have done it without her”, he wiped the tears on the face of his grandchild.
“Felix, I am asking you now. Are you willing to fight against this odd actions of yours?”
The question didn’t hang in the air for long before a firm reply echoed “Yes, I am.”
“You will take full responsibility of your actions? You won’t whine like a little baby when the urge arises and you fall? I will hold you accountable for your wrong doings? You are will to be a betterment to your loved ones and the larger society? Do you agree to all these terms and conditions?”, Pa John hurled the questions to lit a fire in the belly of his younger version staring at him.
“Yes sir. I want to leave this filth. I want to be better”, Felix replied gingerly.
“Alright then. Let’s share the grace of the Lord to mark this as a signed deal between us”, a victorious smile stained Pa John’s face as he reached out for his bible.
