My son Generation always likes to ask..
His questions are so strange that my heart
trembles when I hear these.
I stare at his transparent eyes with a lot of amazement.

It was an emergency across the country..
A military government imposed blackout,
One day Generation asked me:
Dad, what is curfew?
I answered: No one can leave the house
if there is curfew.

-But look at the sparrows
coming and going every time
Don't they care about curfew?

A pair of sparrows nested
on the ventilator
of our home
The house was filled with the chirping
all the day
I looked at him and laughed- No baby,
sparrows do not care about curfew.

I sat down that evening to teach history
to Generation.
Turning the pages of language movement,
he asked: Dad, theses are the martyrs
Rafiq, Salam, Barkat, Shafiur..
what kind of sparrows were they?

I was surprised and said:
Why can they be birds?
They were just like you- human being.
Alive with full of hearts in the chests.

Generation said in a tone of disbelief:
_Then why did they not care about curfew
If they were also human being
Like you and me
Why does we care?

I was speechless, no answer I had.
