A deeply affecting story. I am not susceptible to melodrama--it actually turns me off. However, somehow you manage to avoid that affliction with this very affecting piece. The survivor cannot grasp the significance of death, the absence of the loved one. What you somehow capture is that moment of realization that loss is final and irrevocable. It's very difficult to explain the experience of absence, but you manage it.
