Dear Father Christmas

Dear Father Christmas:

Forgive me for never having written a letter to you when I was a child. In fact this is the first time I am writing to you, as I know that you must have many requests from so many people in the world.

When I heard about you I was already a little grown up and although I was still a child I had enough sense not to get carried away by the rhythm of my schoolmates asking for toys and sweets as presents.

I was not born into a golden cradle, my family is humble and working class and I always knew that there were certain cravings that I could not afford even though the idea of possessing them was in my heart.

On the other hand, I always tried not to make my family feel guilty or responsible for not being able to give me big presents like some of my friends. We had a Christmas tree that year after year my aunt added new decorative components made by her own hands and I helped her as much as I could. My dad had made the tree together with my grandfather. It was made of wire and twisted with plastic fibres to simulate the branches of the pine tree. For me, that was the best of the best. Unfortunately that tree that added so many beautiful memories to my memory no longer exists, but we can still decorate it with some of the pieces that my aunt made. Today, I can proudly tell this story to my son, as we colour the tree.

Santa: can I ask you for something?

I want to make you a big request: something that serves all the people who inhabit the same planet as I do, who walk on this soil that gives us food and use the water that keeps us alive, wandering everywhere breathing the oxygen that nature provides us. For all of us (myself included) I ask CONSCIOUSNESS.

Conscience to be prudent towards our fellow human beings and not to think of life for ourselves, but to take into account our harmonious and respectful coexistence. A little bit of prudence not to waste what nature offers us and to be able to return our gratitude with actions.

Awareness to appreciate our loved ones every day and not only on certain dates.

Conscience to live with dignity to have what we sweat with our own efforts and not exploiting others, taking advantage of our power.

Conscience to help our fellow human beings when they need it and to support them in order to get ahead.

Conscience to know how to savour the beautiful moments of life and to defend them above all else.

Conscience to know how to live in peace with ourselves and to find within ourselves the way to be our best version every day.
I don't know if my request is possible. Nor is it necessary for it to reach everyone at Christmas, as I know that you have many orders from children waiting for their requests. I only wish that one day you could read my letter and I would be very happy if you could satisfy me.

Until then, Merry Christmas.

This has been my participation for this weekend.
