Getting the best of me in the middle of a hurricane.

Hello dear friends of the weekend experiences community. The previous weekend was terrible and I had to bring out the best version of me. Let me explain. My country Cuba was threatened by the hurricane Rafael, which was forecast to be very strong. That means winds with a speed of more than 175 km per hour, hitting everything. We were all very scared since Friday when the news was confirmed. So we started to prepare the house, put sacks of clay on the roof, pick up the garbage, close the windows, prepare meals.

Under that panic, the most important thing for me, according to my cultural level and some knowledge of psychology, was to help others to deal with the stressful situation in the best way, to advise, to calm, to offer help in terms of news. Explaining the best way to protect oneself. I also saved properties of other people who had a more vulnerable housing.

A hurricane can leave people with nothing and is dangerous even to life, strong winds, rains, landslides, floods. Even in our country in the easternmost part is suffering the loss of several people and multiple properties. Although we already have knowledge from multiple experiences, every day that is faced is new.
It was really a frightening experience but fortunately for my area of residence there was no damage, the hurricane moved away considerably.
Now we are without electricity because it did damage the main lines coming from the capital of the country.
In the province of Artemisa it destroyed many buildings, high electric pylons. But we do not have to lament loss of human lives.
During the storm, which finally passed on Wednesday although we prepared for it over the weekend, I had to keep in telephone contact with a friend of mine who was very frightened and could not breathe almost because she was so scared. I managed to calm her down and she was able to sleep. The next day she came home and told me: you are the best person ever.

There I also leave you a painting of my friend @davidsantafe that can capture what one feels when he is in the middle of a storm and wants to save himself and the most important thing he owns.

We were in tension all weekend and it lasted until Wednesday. Now the tension is different, we have no electricity and the refrigerated food is beginning to spoil. This weekend promises to be difficult for those of us who live in Pinar del Rio. But we will hope and work to help each other and bring out the best version of each person.
