The weekend is over already but I'm in the mood to answer a weekend question. I'll be responding to the very first question,
Would you rather
Would you rather work in a job you totally hate but pays you well or work in a job you love and find inspiring but the pay was low and you had to strictly budget your financial matters. Explain your answers.
This is an interesting one because it's a choice a lot of people have to make. Where I come from, you'd be lucky to work in a place you actually wished to. Most times, people just take whatever it is that comes their way just so they can survive. This inherently means that a lot of people are working at jobs they hate.

I haven't necessarily worked at a job I completely hated, every single job I have done piqued my interest one way or another. However, I've worked with bosses I didn't like that made the job tiring.
I don't have the luxury of being selective in a country where there are not enough jobs so I'd pick a job I totally hate that pays me well over an inspiring job. This is very contradictory for someone who talks about their mental health a lot but the truth is I have to survive before anything else.
Passion doesn't pay the bills over here and I can't starve with the vague hope that someday, everything will work out fine. My brother is a typical example in this case. I always thought he'd make a great career out of his artworks but now I'm grown and I understand why he dropped his passion to deal with life.
It's not as if I don't know how to budget but there are so many uncertainties with being in Nigeria. Nothing is insured and bills keep popping because you have to provide for yourself the basics that the government have failed to provide for you.
No matter how strict you are with your budget, a low-paying job can't cover all of your seen and many unforeseen expenses. I rather have that job that pays well so I can at least have more to save and sort my basic needs. Remember poor people are not terrible at saving, there's just not enough for them to save.
It's a tough decision to make because I'd be risking my mental health and also risking my passion. When I worked with people I didn't like, it was hard at first but I learned to detach my emotions and work-life from after-work life.
That's exactly what I'd do if I were to be in a job I hated right now. It'd be like living a double life but it's the best I can do to be a little sane as I try to earn a decent living.

I say just do what makes you happy. If earning a good salary and making a good living for yourself is more important to you then... Fine. Quite Understandable.

My understanding though, is that you feel one can learn to love their job eventually? Regardless of how they feel about it intially?

That can happen. It also might never happen. My feeling is more of being tolerant till one is at a point where they're at least comfortable enough to leave a job they hate.

Some people hate college but just push through hard enough so they can get a degree and be educated. Some people hate learning a new language, but just push through hard enough so they can pass that German exam and be with their spouse.
Tolerance is actually a really important virtue.
Still, happiness though.... You can only take it for so long...

Cos that's what we all need... Social Intelligence.
Being able to work with anyone no matter who they are and what they do to us in the work place is a good attitude one should cultivate. .... It will serve us in the long run.
When it comes to my country, you are right, a good paying job is better because we will have more to Save and even invest in projects that we are enthusiastic about.
There's no point working at a job you love and risk getting into debt because your bills stares at you in the face.
In short, working in a job you love is near impossible in my country 🤦🏿♀️

I chose a Career in nursing, it was something I enjoyed at some level no matter how difficult the work load for that day turned out, and at most times get a sense of satisfaction that I did the best that I could. It paid well was a bonus. I can save as long as I am discerning from what I need from what I want. With expenses now climbing much faster... we'll see what happens and what I may give up or trade off.

I think someone has to pay your bills, If it's not you them others maybe your closer relatives, that means that if you aren't self sufficient you'll became a economical weight for somebody, establishing a way of living around what you like from early years would make easier to stay close to your passion, if is'nt the case them you must save as much energy as you can on your free time to enjoy whatever drive you in, while you keep working on your current job, I think few things can compete with the relax state of mind due knowing you don't depend on no-one to live.
Well said! Someone's got to pay the bills and as an adult, I have to adult.
I think I stayed close to things I love doing but I'm not doing them to my full potential right now because like I said, these things won't pay the bills.

This is a loaded question you are right, because this question doesn't factor in the job market and the condition of the country regarding economic issues that may or may not affect the people, such as being in a 3rd world country or living in the countryside.
