The dilemma between patriotism and family

20240429_154039.jpg

The subject of my post today is a very sensitive one, as my country (Romania) borders a country already at war (Ukraine).

Frankly, I'm not proud to write a few lines about what I would do if my country was involved in a war, the pressure would be on me.

Everything you will read here strictly reflects the situation as I see it in Romania.

When it comes to making the ultimate sacrifice and that of defending your country at the risk of losing your life (we're still talking about a war) I'm sure many of you reading my post right now would do so, and yes, my duty to my country and my patriotism certainly compels me to choose to go to war.

But wait, what good is a war?

Looking a little over my shoulder at our neighbours and seeing the horrors but also the sadness on people's faces, many of them being forced to leave their homes (this is something that destroys me, knowing that I have to abandon my life's work), I think this makes me think twice about going to war.

Bearing in mind two essential things, first of all the disastrous effects of the war, but also the high level of corruption in Romania, this leads me to say clearly that under no circumstances would I participate in the war.

In conclusion, my idea of not going to war, if drafted, is an act of courage and, again, the question of what good is war.

War equals suffering, massive destruction, destruction of the future of the population of that country, political interests and what is even more painful for me is that those in charge of the countries involved in a war do not give a penny for the lives lost, sad.

THE END!

If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.

Big dilemma indeed. Not sure we can predict how we will really react when push comes to shove

That's right, until we experience it ourselves, we cannot predict how we will react.
Thank you so much for stopping by.

it really is a tough decision. so would you be ok with the jail time. You would be in the jail and you wouldn't be able to protect your family.

Under the current conditions in my country I certainly wouldn't go to war if I had recruited, because, quite simply, war brings nothing good but destruction.
This is strictly my opinion about what might happen in my country.
And yes, going to war is the ultimate gesture a man can make, I totally agree with you.
If I look at the real situation in the country, there are many things that make me not go to war and believe me this idea is supported by many people here.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Oh no worries. I understand that you wouldn't want to go to war. I wouldn't want to go to war either so I get where you're coming from. For me though I don't think I could handle all the killing and blood, it wouldn't be good for me.

Thank you. you have a great Sunday as well

You're right!😉

ty ty haha I don't think there's a right or wrong tho it's all up to the person's opinion

Greetings from Ukraine, neighbor!

I want to give you a few thoughts after reading your post about the war.

1.- Before deciding to participate in the war, think carefully, is there a real threat to the existence of you and your loved ones, or does someone want you to think that way when making decisions?
2.- If God forbid it happens that war comes to your territory, no one will ask you if you want to participate in this war, or if you have the health and strength for it.
Just like in our country, in such a case you will have closed borders and laws contradicting the basics of human rights! (I have to go into hiding in my country to avoid going to war).
3.- most importantly! Every war has reasons. It is always better to eliminate the causes before the conflict starts. Sometimes it is worth stepping out of your comfort zone and protesting against the anti-people actions of a government that risks involving the country in a full-scale war.
We did not do this in our time, and now we are trying to confront the consequences of our shortsightedness and excessive trust in the appointed rulers.

Before poking a sleeping bear with a stick, it is necessary to carefully compare all possible risks and consequences of such an event. And as practice shows, the Ukrainian example has taught the European rulers nothing.

Good luck to you and peaceful skies!

I am very glad that a "neighbour" of my country responded to my post and thank you for that.
I don't want to go into the details of the dramatic situation in Ukraine because I don't feel comfortable doing that, but even if you wrote that during the war the borders are closed and men have to participate in the war, in my last holidays in Dubai, Turkey, Rome and other countries I met a lot of Ukrainians, is there no war for them?
But that's it, for me it was too much to know that some people die on the streets and others have fun in opulent destinations, but again I don't want to get into these discussions.

There is growing resentment in the ranks of our military about this, too.
The children, the families of the deputies are all overseas.
Many people left the country at the very beginning, while there were still many people willing to join the service. Now things are different with recruitment, and therefore men are only allowed to go abroad with a permit from the military recruitment center! There is also a lot of corruption with this, so the chosen ones are still traveling.

People with means are now looking for any legal or illegal way to leave the country not wanting to go to certain death.
Last May, 10 bodies of men of conscription age founded in the Tisa River in an attempt to leave the country. In the entire spring, over 30 drownings.

Those who are caught before the river say they paid between 4,000 and 8,000 euros to be driven to the border area and shown the direction of travel.... Some are given an inflatable life preserver or mattress. I am not joking, there are many videos of detentions by our border guards.

I don't want to scare you in any way, but since you brought up this topic, I thought you might be interested this my observations!
If you are not comfortable with this topic, or your thoughts about it are "not popular" in our time, naturally we can end our dialog))

Knowing in advance how long this conflict will drag on and what kind of "democratic" country we will become in the meantime, I would do my best to stay safe!
No, just kidding. lol
Of course, I wouldn't have believed such a thing either, which is why I'm stuck here outlawed right now))))

Best of luck to you, my skeptical neighbor)))
