WE99: ADVICE BASED ON EXPERIENCE

Life, they say, ain’t fair. I do not know why I think that is too generalized. But I believe that life just does not give fairness at all times. Also, they say, experience is the best teacher. Although, in some other cases, Knowledge is. It is one thing to experience a thing, it is another to learn from it. Not learning or making the most of an experience is tantamount to not having one.

Here is my entry to my choice of the weekend engagement topics by @galenkp.

Advice from past achievements
Looking back on your own life, what have you learned through attempts, failures or achievements that you could bundle up and deliver as advice to other people that they may be better prepared to achieve themselves. Share your advice and wisdom gained through your personal experiences.

As you may have known, I am quite a very observant person in the sense that I do not just deal with just what I may be seeing just presently but in conjunction with the past events. And there are tons of things I have learned which may take a whole day to read, so I’ll just stick to some of the most basic but important ones.

I’d like to start from the aspect of parenthood – although, I am not a parent yet. In one of my posts – UPGRADES ON PARENTHOOD - I mentioned that I would ensure my children build their decision-making skills from home. This is because an average parent in my locality tends to make the decision for their children all through infancy to the stage when the child would have to say it’s enough. Even though at infancy no child even understands what decisions are, but as they grow – at least when they start to speak – let them in. As small as asking them, what they want for breakfast and doing it – if it is reasonable at least; rather than just forcing them to just eat what you provide. On a bit larger scale, asking of their opinion on things that are not related to them makes sense too.

One of my resolution for this year is to treat people better. This does not imply that I was wack at human relations. No, but I want and I am doing it better than before. Currently, I am reading the book “How To Win Friends and Influence People” by DALE CARNEGIE. This book further emphasizes how to basically relate with people in a way beneficial to both parties. Furthermore, this will enable one to build one's network because even with all the money in the world, you still won’t be able to afford some things in life. But by the virtue of those in your network, you could get things easily by, for example, a mere text message and doors will be flung open to you.

This was shot by me

Recently, I got something I have been struggling to get for some years. The lesson here is basically the fact that once you set your mind to something, it’s important not to go back on it even if the odds may not be in your favor or till when you may not be entitled to it anymore. As I said about the good thing I got, I had applied for it more than I can even keep track of. I only knew that anytime I saw that the opening was out, I applied for it. And it was the last one, after which I would no longer apply, that I got what I wanted. Then, it dawned on me that what if I had just given up on it….

Lastly, I would like to add this, Dare to challenge the status quo. I do not imply this on a negative side. I know at times the status quo could be the comfort zone you are in, in the state of your family, business, political office etc. But I say, even though the status quo is a good and cool one, strive to make a difference even if it’s a little. This is how discoveries are made through creativity and innovation. Challenging the status quo is one of the reasons I am into student politics in my school and, it has really paid out. I have found why some things are the way they are and still getting it.

These are some of the things that have and still helping me to improve in my day-to-day living. And I do not see myself backing out from them but adding more to my armory.

Thanks.

Hi @temibot

It's always good to keep extending ourselves and treating others better and applying yourself to your relationships and friendships is never a bad thing. I've been wanting to read that book for years, but have never got round to it. Maybe this is the universe nudging me to finally do it.

But I say, even though the status quo is a good and cool one, strive to make a difference even if it’s a little.

I agree with this totally. There is always a step ahead of one's position. Strive to climb that step.
