RE: To drink or not to drink

I drink occasionally. A beer sometimes on weekends when we go on a terrace to have a snack before lunch. Also, three or four times a year, I like to have some rum and coke at social gatherings.
I remember getting drunk three times when I was young, the funniest one was when I got my first job and was sent to Italy for 1,5 months. It was in the Piedmonte region, known for its wines.

I made some friends as I was working for a big company, and one of them invited me to have dinner at their uncle`s, who produced some wine as a hobby.
He showed us the cellar and invited us to test every single wine.
It was funny as he was pouring the different varieties into our cups and he was also tasting but doing only small sips and throwing away the rest. I wanted to be polite and drank all the wine he was pouring into my cup :)

That was before dinner, and I managed quite well, but then, after all the food, he brought the home made Grappa and that was just too much!!!!

I've been meaning to try rum but never get around to it. I'm only 52 years old so there's plenty of time for it to happen.

I don't really get into wine in a big way, it's just a drink to me if I'm honest and the different varieties and nuances of it are generally lost on me. I was born in a very famous wine region and know a fair amount about it, but I'm as far from being a wine snob as a person can get.
