I am so happy to come across the Weekend community and this is my first post for this community. I am now retired but both my wife Roselind and daughter Victoria are working. My son Jonathan who is autistic goes to the Autistic Centre during the weekdays. Therefore the weekend is the time when I can spend more time with my family and go for mini excursions.
Few Sundays ago, I visited Orchid Park with Jonathan and Victoria as my wife Roselind had to attend an official function.
The Orchid Park which is managed by the Kuching North City Council (or Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara) occupies an area of about 15.4-acre in Petra Jaya, Kuching. The historical Astana ( official residence of the Governor of Sarawak, Fort Margherita and the Dewan Undangan Negeri (State Legislative Assembly) are located in the vicinity of the Park. Entrance to the Park is free but do take note that the park is not open on Monday.
These plants are found at the entrance of the Orchid Park.
The Orchid Park's construction began on December 1, 2007, and it was completed and opened to the public on May 5, 2009.
The Orchid Park is organized into two main areas: the nursery and the showcase area, which host a total of 75,000 plants representing 82 genera. Most of the famous Borneo orchids can be found in the garden.

The orchid family is one of the world's most diverse groups of flowering plants.
Orchids are very hardy plants and therefore, except for Antarctica, they can survive on every continent and in practically every habitat.
One fun fact is orchid can help you sleep because it produces a lot of oxygen. Therefore orchids can be placed on the bedside.
When we were about to go home, we noticed a bridal car in the car park.
I looked around and saw a couple taking wedding photos in the park. The bride looked so beautiful and radiant.
We had a fun and enjoyable time at the park. There were so many varieties of orchids in different colors and shapes. Jonathan being autistic was keener to just walk around the park rather than to admire the flowers. The beautiful flowers certainly put me in a better mood that Sunday.

Oh an orchid park would be heavenly to walk round and see all the different types, I would be non stop smelling and clicking!
The orchids here are so beautiful, with so many colors and so many shapes. I can understand why the couple wants to take their wedding photos here.

Wow these orchids are so beautiful :). I only have one pot of purple orchids at my apartment now. I wish I could have more but the winter here is too long and my flower is not having enough sunshine :(.
