in Weekend Experiences14 days ago
Greetings to everyone in the Weekend Experiences community, as every weekend we meet to exchange on interesting topics.

I can not miss the opportunity to tell you about the most fascinating place for me, the most fascinating place that exists and is full of history: Old Havana.

Old Havana is a priceless historical and cultural treasure, it is located in the heart of Havana, the Cuban capital.

It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982, to visit it is to immerse yourself in the colonial era.

Everything in it is impressive, its cobblestone streets and its imposing buildings, which mix different architectural and ornamental styles, describe the history of the city.

Old Havana is characterized by multiple squares, fountains and sculptures. Among the most famous and visited are La Plaza de La Catedral, La Plaza de Armas, La Plaza Vieja and La Plaza de San Francisco de Asís.

They all tell a story, and many of its buildings were palaces or houses of personalities in the colonial era and today are spectacular museums where you can find the most diverse pieces of that time, besides enjoying the interior courtyards, railings and stained glass windows.

An example is the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, located in the Plaza fe Armas, this was the former residence of the governors of the island, today it is the Museum of the City, where important documents and objects that reflect the evolution of Havana throughout the centuries are exhibited.

Also in this Plaza is the place where the first Cabildo was held, you can see the Ceiba and enjoy the paintings exhibited in the Templete that recreate how that ceremony took place.

.

One of the emblematic places of the city are its three fortresses, built to guard the entrance of the Bay of Havana and protect the city from the attacks of corsairs and pirates.

The Castillo del Morro is characterized by a lighthouse that guides the boats, it is a symbol of the city. The Castillo de San Pedro de La Cabaña, built next to the Morro, maintains the tradition of firing a cannon at 9:00 pm, because since colonial times this was done to indicate to the inhabitants that they could no longer be in the street, from that moment on, the access to the city was closed.

Finally, the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, the oldest fortress in the city, has been converted today into the Navigation Museum, where nautical artifacts and objects related to Cuba's maritime history are exhibited.

These are some of the most relevant places for me, but I assure you that there are many more, that make everyone who visits the city will be captivated by this city.
