Would you believe me if I told you that I have a fabric bag that cooks meaty stews, soup, beans or lentils and it will continue cooking while you're at work, without fear of burning?
You'll only need to get the cooking process going on your gas or electric stove before leaving for work, pop the pot into a fabric bag filled with repurposed chipped foam and let it sit in a draught-free place without using gas or electricity and you'll have a hot comforting meal ready when you get home in the evening!
The Wonderbag is an amazing South African invention used by rural as well as city dwellers, truly awesome!
I use it to prove bread dough as well, when in a hurry.
My son gave this one to me and it's been indispensable!

    I don't know what to say! At first I thought you're having an old Australian bloke on for a laugh...But you're serious right? This is a cool invention! So, the way I understand it, is it uses the residual heat from the initial heating process to keep it cooking, without power? What great little gadget!

    I'm going to look it up and see if I can learn some more!

      It really is amazing @galenkp!
      One can buy the Wonderbag online, and the site explains how it was invented and how it works much better so I will quote:

      Sarah Collins had a lightning bolt of inspiration one night during one of South Africa’s blackouts and she knew just how she was going to change the world. Heat retention cooking, an ancient yet revolutionary technique that has been around for thousands of years. Enter Moshy Mathe, the founder of the NGO Youth For Survival. Soon after Sarah and her met, the creative sparks flew and she drew the design for the first Wonderbag on a napkin! A cute contraption you can use to continue cooking your food without electricity or using lots of wood for fire once it's on the go.
      And so the Wonderbag was born to empower women to feed their families, generate an income, save them time, as well as allow them to cook in a healthier environment without the huge amount of health-damaging smog caused by indoor fire cooking. Today Youth for Survival not only trains women to sew Wonderbags, but also empowers the whole community. Mathe has also opened a shelter for abused women, where they can receive counselling and support to get back on their feet.

        Such a great story and invention...I mentioned invention through necessity and this is a clear example! I'd not thought about the blackout scenario and can see how this would be a great method of keeping things cooking! Thanks for sharing this.

          This Wonderbag certainly has helped many many underprivileged people and those living in remote areas where there's no electricity!
          One of our Hive foodies @plantstoplanks who is a personal trainer and nutrition consultant lives in America and ordered one of these online, she's written a blog or two about her experience cooking plantbased food with it.

                Hey @cmplxty, I shared the story on how the Wonderbag started with @galenkp, very interesting. Not sure if this particular online store delivers internationally, but I'm sure you'll find one that will deliver in your country! It's an amazing super eco-friendly invention;)
