Treasure hunt birthday party

Last week was my adorable great nephew Arthur's birthday. I can still remember when he was born, he was a covid baby and and it was a while before I got to see him. Now he's a chatty and cheeky young lad who is so cute and lovable. Apparently, I'm his favourite aunty 😍

I invited Arthur and his family over for dinner over the weekend, and prepared a treasure hunt for him and his little sister. I hid his birthday present in the TV cabinet in the living room. I keep some toys in there for them to play with when they come over. They always open the cabinet and pull out the toys as soon as they arrive. One of them is the orange ball at the back. It's one of those stretchy thingy and they love pulling the strands of plastic. I'm surprised they haven't pulled off all the strands yet.

Anyway, I took photos of all the presents, showed them to Arthur, and told him he had to look for the treasures. He was very excited, as was his little sister, and she kept on shouting treasure hunt, tresure hunt. She babbles a lot and I don't know if she knows what treasure hunt means. I reckon she was just repeating what her brother was saying because she adores him.

Arthur immediately recognised this photo. I keep all my rubber ducks in the downstairs cloakroom, and the two of them always go in there to play with the rubber ducks. Arthur rushed in immediately, and as big brother, he took his little sister with him, because to be honest, she really had no idea what was happening. They saw the packet of sweets immediately and squealed with delight.

Next was Arthur's birthday present. He didn't recognise the TV cabinet, so I had to give him some hints and told him to go look for his toys. He got that immediately and found his birthday present! Another scream of excitement especially when he saw the balloon with his initials on it. And before I could give him more hints, he must have remembered the photo of the egg shape footstool. It's in the corner of the living room and they like dragging that out to play. I think they roll on top of it and pretend to fall off it, typical silly things that kids do. They found another bag of sweeties. More screams!

The final one was a bit difficult. I hid the box of chocolate in my pantry. Sometimes I show them inside when I give them snacks, but normally it's behind closed doors. I opened the pantry door for them to peek inside, but there were too many things in there. I had deliberately put the box of chocolate at their eye level near the bottom of the shelf to make it easier for them to find. It took a while and Arthur eventually saw it right in front of him!!!!

Now with their treasure hoard, the two little ones were busy ripping open the bags and nibble on the sweets and chocolate. It was a fun little game and priceless to see how happy and excited the kids were. I might do this again next year.

I miss being a child; no complexity and stress, just a world of wonder around me and an entire life ahead. Oh, and also the ability to eat as many sweets as I wanted without thinking of the implications on my hips.

You know what, up till last year I was still eat as many sweets as I want without worrying my hip line, that's easy to cover 🤭 But now I worry about my teeth, I wish I knew that when I was a kid

Teeth yes, that's a whole other issue. I'm lucky to say I have not ever had the need for a filling; my dad was fastidious with teaching me how to clean my teeth and he would be pleased to know it stuck.

What a good auntie you are! I can almost hear their squeals of delight! 😁

I think sounds of children laughter and them playing are the most beautiful sounds 😘

Belated happy birthday, Arthur! 🎂
And you’re a very fun aunt, that’s for sure. Just by looking at your duck collection, it’s easy to tell. 😅🎉

Got to keep key myself young at heart! And having children around is the best way to do that!

👻😂

No wonder you are his favourite aunty! Gah they grow up so fast

I know, especially since he started school he's developed so quick. Hope you're having loads of fun with your little one

Saw the dog immediately, took a bit longer to find the little one. Makes you melt when they dive into you 💝

It sure does. Yeah he wouldn't pose for the photo. Too busy climbing and nuzzling. Gwanndmaaa

Awwww that's so fun and sweet. Happy birthday to Arthur!

Thanks! I love seeing the children, luckily they live nearby and I get to see them often

Happy birthday to Arthur! Hope he gets an account as a gift when he's like 16 or so ;)

Let's hope Hive is still around then 😄

Congratulations !!

I am very glad that the rubber ducks were so well-behaved and didn't open the strawberry sweets package before Arthur and his little sister found it 😁

The rubba duckies are very good friends with the siblings, luckily they wouldn't steal their sweets 😃

What fun! We used to have the kids do scavenger hunts when we were camping. It always kept them quite busy!

Yeah, I realise now it's a great way to get them engaged and active. Their little treasure hunt only lasted five minutes as I didn't really give it much thought, but I may plan better next time

Awesome! :)

There's nothing like making a child happy. I thought about doing this with my little cousin too, but it needs to be a little less destructive. When they come home, they scatter everything around, so making them do a treasure hunt might be a bad idea XD Because they're very active when scattering things, but they don't show the same enthusiasm when picking them up 😂

Kids!!! Got to teach them when they're young. Arthur's mum makes him and his little sister put everything back before they leave, and I never have to tidy up after they're gone. It's perfect

I bet your Nephew was totally delighted with the results of his quest. I'm still hoping to see some grand children in my side of my family soon. For now, I vicariously live the joy of grand-parenthood through others.
