A beautiful wedding at a beautiful location

This weekend I attended a family wedding. A few decades ago this would have been an impossible event, and even now it is not possible in many countries around the world. Luckily, we live in modern times in UK, and weddings are an all inclusive events open to everyone. This lovely couple held their special day at an absolutely stunning location. This location is so beautiful that it is worthy of a travel post, but I'm going to keep it as a wedding post as I feel it's important to celebrate this special occasion.

The Wedding

It was a beautiful ceremony, full of the usual little gaffs that happen during wedding such as the little page boy running down the aisle to mummy instead of walking slowly ahead of the couple, and one of the brides saying I do eagerly before she is supposed to. It's all these little things that make the ceremony such a lovely intimate affair.

The reception was held in a marquee and they opened up one side looking out into the garden. It was lovely to feel the warm summer breeze flowing in, as if nature was blessing us with the most glorious weather.

The wedding cake was simple yet filled with loved. They were topped with a bay leaf on each, freshly picked the previous day from one of the mother of the bride's own tree at home. I'm told the tree meant a lot to the family. What they didn't know is that our family surname means leaf in Chinese. They were over the moon when I told them that, and that the love of one family has now become the union of two, linked by marriage and a tree.

The House

The wedding of course is the highlight of the day, but the venue itself was totally outstanding and deserves a mention. It is a 12th century medieval house surrounded by a moat.

This is one of the entrances across the moat that leads into the courtyard and then the house.

It was the perfect location to welcome the newlyweds after the ceremony. Everyone lined up here waiting for them to walk through.

And this is the terrace on the other side of the house. This is where the guests all mingled after the ceremony, offering our first congratulations to the newlyweds, and taking photos, both of the wedding and this beautiful location.

The Gardens

After the ceremony and photo shoot at the house, we moved to the gardens where they continued to serve drinks and take more photos. This was a perfect arrangement as there was so much to do here. Some quests walked by the moat surrounding the house, some choose to wander into the secret garden, and some like myself played with the garden games laid out for us.

The Field

There was a massive wheat field next to the venue that belonged to the owner. They have harvested the wheat, and the bales of hay were tied up left on the fields. It was the perfect place for a walk around in the afternoon. Luckily the host had advised us to wear comfortable shoes (I had my stilettoes on for the ceremony earlier on) otherwise it would have been rather difficult for me to stand on top of the bale of hay.

As the afternoon drew and the sun began to set, the golden ray shining onto the hay was a beautiful view.

The Gift

A few month ago I went to another wedding, and gifted the newlywed a Swarovski crystal from my personal collection. This time, I did the same and gifted them this set.

And in traditional Chinese fashion, a wedding gift always includes a little wad of cash especially when its family. Wishing the newlyweds all the best in their new live together.

It's a brilliant place for such a lovely event! And you are fortunate with weather. The photos are amazing!

This @dimasia, wedding are always lovely events, I think we don't get enough of them nowadays, especially as spectacular locations like these

Pragmatism and digital reality are squeezing romance and normal human relationships out of our lives, unfortunately...

Is your location WSM as in Weston-super-Mare? That's my guess anyway. I maintain the #BritList and am looking out for people to add.

Yup Steve, come and visit us sometime!! 😊

I'd love to. Not been over that way for a while.

Yep, it's Weston-super-Mare.

Wow That's Amazing Scenery.... Beautiful 😍👍🙂🎈👌

It was the best wedding location I've been to

Yes I believe it Mate 🙂🧉

Wonderful natural place to celebrate a wedding, I loved your images that show nature in its splendor.
Many greetings
that's a nice weekend experience.

Thanks so much for dropping by

These pictures make me want to get married again 🤣 ...

To the same person of course...

What do you think @fruityfruitz?

ha ha!! you're lucky you remember to ask @fruityfruitz otherwise you might get yourself in trouble!!

You learn a few things after 15 years of marriage. !lolz

😂🤣Haha! That was a safe tag. I was about it say, “Oh Yeah?!!”
You saved yourself there @bearmol.
What a lovely wedding location. I’m sure the wedding itself was beautiful as well. @livinguktaiwan you captured the site so well. The photos are lovely. I would have enjoyed standing on the hay too. Lol!
Yes, it makes me feel like getting married again… to @bearmol. 😅Had to add that. Whew!🤣
💗I loved the concept of the bay leaves and it went so well with the meaning of the family name.
@bearmol if we’re gonna do this again, the cake has to be similarly special. If it will be based on our Peakd names, please don’t put bears on the cake, I rather fruits. 😆

How about a bear shape cake with fruits ? 😉

Not bad actually. I like how you merged the two. 😃

What a beautiful place and what a beautiful party, it seems like a fairy tale with that beautiful castle inside its lake. Pears, cetos and beautiful gazebos that made the decoration something without equal. Congratulations to the couple.

Thanks. Couples can even get married outdoors in the secret garden, by the chairs where I sat down. That's a lovely setting if the weather is right

What a lovely and intimate wedding!
I haven't been to weddings since the pandemic, though I have only been to weddings in the Philippines.
I definitely haven't been to one here in Japan. It's included on my bucket list. 😅
It's so lovely to see different cultures and is very evident at weddings.

The wedding venue is so nice too! I love the vibes of the place!
Congratulations to them and may they have a blessed marriage!

I hear traditional weddings in Japan are very interesting, especially the traditional bride's gown. My husband's best friend married a Japanese lady and he went to their wedding in Japan

That's really nice! Your husband is so lucky!
Here in Japan, people say it's up to the bride and groom which attire they'll use for the wedding, which could be the traditional kimono or the modern white wedding dress. The traditional one looks so authentic.

Oh my goodness, what a stunning location! I couldnt' afford anything like that when I got married in the UK so I had to stick to a really old church hahah. Still lovely though - it was this one in Affpuddle...which Wikipedia makes look needlessly miserable..I guess for this Australian, anything older than 150 years was a bonus haha.

image.png

Love your dress - that pic of you on the haystack is superb!

And the cakes with the bay on - what a sweet idea.

Affpuddle!! What an interesting name. English little parish churches all have loads of character, I'm sure this one isn't as miserable as it looks, especially with a wedding inside.

As you probably know, we got tonnes of old buildings here, not difficult to be drinking in a pub, or even live in a house that's a couple of centuries old. I know the Americans, and probably many Aussies find that really fascinating, guess we're a bit spoilt here 😀

That's a dream location, beautiful, picturesque and very spacious too with the garden and all there is. Very thoughtful presents to the newly weds!

Amazing shots by the way, and I did wonder how you got up on that hay of bale :)

With a bit of difficulty I have to say, with my brother lending me his hand to step up, and my hubby supporting me in case I fall over. Luckily my dress is pretty long so no embarrassing moments when I scrambled up.

Oh, that's very cool of them. It must be fun up the bale :)

Yeah, a few of us climbed up to take photos. We often see bales of hay when we drive past the fields which are private property, this was the perfect opportunity to have some fun

It's a rare opportunity indeed, glad you took the chance :) To be honest, I only see them on films.

Beautiful. All of it. The venue, the little touches, the connections and your thoughtful gift.

The couple did a fantastic job considering they pulled all this together in less than four months. They're such a lovely couple

It's great to see the commitment that this company has to creating a pleasant work environment. The plants and decorations make the space feel more welcoming, and it's clear that the staff takes pride in their work. This is a great example of how important the physical environment is to the success of a any event.

The venue makes so much difference to the day, and I'm sure all the guests will remember the wedding because of it. I know I will.

The wedding is amongst the most important stages of life and getting to celebrate it in a memorable and beautiful location is definitely a must to.

In 2 weeks I'll go to the wedding of one of my friends and from what I understood she picked a pretty bad location with bad food too just for the sake of saving some money since both her and her soon to become husband never had a lot of money.

However, thinking that is such an important step in a person's life, I'll never understand why to do it in a place like that instead of saving some more time and have a blast at one of these beautiful locations. So I'm happy to see this is not happening over there because it's how I'd do it too if it was my case as well :)

I hope your friend's wedding will still turn out fine despite the location and food, as she will have all her friends celebrating with her. To be honest the food here wasn't that great, we had roast pork, and the best bit which is the crackling, was really hard and most of us couldn't eat it at all.

It's a bit difficult when you are short of cash which is the case with many youngsters nowadays, so it's a tough decision to make on where to focus the budget, on the venue, food, dress, honeymoon, or even the new home instead of the wedding. Hopefully, you can have your dream wedding when the day comes!!! And don't forget to share your happiness with us!!!

Absolutely! I'm that kind of person who prefers to have maximum 10 people around her on that special moment and invest more into a beautiful location to remember forever. So if the chain will still be here when I make that step, I'll definitely share the moment!

Of course the chain will be here!! Or at least the people will, in another virtual space if it came to that again 💪

The last time I attended a wedding was I think 2018 and it was mine😂. After that pandemic happened so all of my friends who got married just uploaded videos and photos for us to see but we were not invited. (Limited guests due to covid).

I loved the venue it's like what I saw in movies. Especially the architecture.

Best wishes to the newly weds.

Ah!! That is tough for newlyweds in the past few years. The other wedding I went to a few months back, was postponed twice during covid. Not being able to celebrate with friends and family on their most important day of their life really sucks, especially watching videos when your probably located in the same city, so near yet so far, so frustrating!!

Exactly! Haha but on the other side many chose to get married tooo as they say "to save a penny"😂.
The thought that you don't need to invite everyone 😂

A wedding is a step for two people to spend their lives together. I'm sure they were happy that you were with them on such a day. A tree-loving family with a family whose last name means leaf, it's a wonderful coincidence. I hope the couple will be happy for a lifetime.

Thanks for your best wishes. It was truly a blessing to see the couple so happy together

Awww this environment is so cool and lovely

It is in deed!

Looks like a really nice wedding. The venue location is incredible. I love a good moat!

The cake and cupcakes looks tasty too. I like the bay leaf idea from the family tree. A nice personal touch.

It was very tempting to make this a travel post as the location is so nice, but I decided against it in the end as I don't get to do many wedding posts. They're becoming a bit rare nowadays as all my friends are married.

A magical place! I really like old houses, and this one looks like a castle! And you look beautiful and happy.

Thank you!!

It's a lovely house, not massively big but still quite grande. I forgot to mention, the owner actually lives in the house! We saw him as we were walking around, he is so lucky to be living in such a beautiful environment

Such a pretty and perfect location...the lake looks so tranquil.. Love the shots too. 😊.
Good thing the hay didn't roll 😅..

My friends were shouting at me to walk the bale of hay and I actually tried one little step to push it forward, it was quite scarey when it felt like it was going to roll!!

Beautiful indeed :) You on the top of the bale of hay look like Rose in that famous Titanic scene :)

haha!! luckily hubby wasn't behind me!!!

A massive Jenga 😂

nice weather for it too

The jenga was fun to play with and quite difficult as well as it was so heavy.

Gotta mention the weather of course, perfect for the day as it was drizzling the evening before on Thursday, then on Saturday it started to turn a bit gloomy. The Friday wedding was spot on!!

perfectly timed !!

They choose Friday coz it's cheaper than Saturday 😁 but it's worked out really well!!

LOL, LOL, but it makes sense!!

Wow...Its been a long time I went for a wedding.
Nice post here.

Wedding seem to be a bit of a rarity these few years during covid, hopefully they will come back now

Such a beautiful wedding location, the gardens are stunning.
You climbed on top of the straw bale 🤓 great photo of you 😁
Thanks for sharing this family wedding.
Happy Monday and enjoy the new week @livinguktaiwan

It was a lovely way and place to spend the day, and great to get the family and friends together, much needed after the past few years. Glad you enjoyed the post Jackie

Yes, I so understand. So great to see friends and family in one place especially after the last years.
We had that when we went to the UK last April… seeing family (of hubby) again after more than 2 years.
You are welcome, always fun reading and checking out your posts 😊👋🏻
Have a great evening!

What a nice venue.

I lile the bails of hay. Haven't climbed up on one for ages.

It's actually the first time I've climbed up one, it's very nice feeling 😄

真是太美啦~~~ 😊 原來您是葉英台... 😁

真是太美啦

景還是人 ? 😂

𠎠 🧐

amazing location!!

What a dream wedding location . Very beautiful place .

it was a great choice of venue, couldn't have asked for better one

looks really pretty!

it is in deed

What a stunning location, Pauline! I would love to be invited to such wedding :D I love the style that they chose. Simple yet classy. And what a great touch about the wedding cake. It makes it more genuine and unique. I think your surname suits you well then ;)

The couple arranged the whole wedding in less than four months so it was probably a bit on the simple side, but I think it worked perfectly, and suited them well. And of course the venue made all the difference to the wedding, it was lovely day

Absolutely gorgeous location!

Wow - what a beautiful venue for the wedding - looks spectacular !

Great choice by the couple, so glad they choose it otherwise I'd never have the chance to go there as it's not open to the public

OMG How beautiful! It's a dreamy wedding. It seems so mesmerising and seeing all the happy faces it makes my heart warm.
Wonderful publication @livinguktaiwan
Have a great day.

Weddings are always a very happy event, so glad I attended this one

That venue looks so perfect for a wedding, and It seems it was a beautiful wed.
I loved that the cake was simple, but with that special meaningful touch of the bay leaf in the cake and cupcakes. And how nice the bay leafs turned out to be meaningful in more than one sense. 😊🍃

It's definitely the most beautiful wedding venue I've been to, and it made so much difference to the whole day. I'm so happy for the couple.

One thing that's very close to my heart, mind , soul and spirit is the thought of my wedding day how its going to be, and all the sweet memories people share during and after the wedding. This I ask God to do for me.
Attending weddings is pleasurable, family and friends who we haven't seen for long we reunite again on such special moment. Share gifts and make memories.

Thanks for your best wishes

I really do enjoy wedding blogs❤️
Such a graceful location, absolutely stunning.
I wish the couples a blissful life together❤️
The wedding guest looks stunning in here floral gown and sneakers, so chic❤️

An unusual wedding in such an interesting place. And I liked the cake and pastry with the decoration of the leaves. Probably because I have a sweet tooth🍰🍃

Wow you are right, what an amazing location. So beautiful!

It is really a beautiful place as you mentioned, happiness to the newly married couples.
