Okay folks, I'm not sure I agree totally with old-mate Arnie in the above quote as I like a glass of milk with my cookies, but I understand the sentiment. We all start off with milk as babies, except for a mate of mine I used to work with who got straight onto Johnnie Walker Blue Label the moment he popped out of his mothers womb was devil-spawned, but generally yeah, milk it is.
Over our lives we move on to other things though and, if you had parents like mine, those other things were mostly water. Yeah, I wasn't allowed to have much soda or cordials when I was a kid...I did sneak the occasional glass of Tang though. I drank other things of course, not just water, although one thing I never tried was alcohol...not until I was twenty two years old.
I had plenty of opportunity to drink alcohol but never really got into the scene and having parents that didn't drink alcohol sort of swayed me against it I guess.
I was booted out of home at the age of seventeen and a half and made my own way in life and even then chose not to drink alcohol although I guess I didn't have the money for it at that point as I was trying to stay alive. Around the age of twenty two I decided it was time to have a drink though and started with scotch whisky, Johnnie Walker Red Label to be precise.
I began to have a drink now and then, mainly on the weekend when I didn't have to work, and tried a few different beers, wines and whiskeys but realised pretty quickly that it wasn't something that held a lot of interest for me.
I've been drunk only three times in my life, the last on time on my thirtieth birthday weekend which I shared with my brother @tarazkp; he is born on the same day as me bit nine years later so it was his 21st. I'm not going to go into it here but, suffice it to say, drinking almost an entire bottle of Johnnie Red was never going to end well...My brothers are to blame though; they set out with evil intent that evening, and they achieved said evil.
These days I have a drink now and then, again it's mostly a weekend thing, but rarely when I'm by myself. I'm a social drinker I guess, and can count on one hand the amount of alcoholic beverages I drink in a month. I always have alcohol in the house though, if I don't my mates might probably kill me when they come over and realise they can't get a beer. I'll have a drink if I'm out for dinner or at a special event though and depending on what I am eating it could be spirits, wine or beer and I have my favourites although, I'm just as likely not to have an alcoholic beverage at all I guess.
How about you? Do you have a favourite alcoholic drink or do you prefer not to drink alcohol at all as so many do?
Feel free to comment below and let me know what your preference is and if you have any rituals like I do; I always drink a Corona if I'm eating Mexican food. Do you drink all week or do you prefer to leave the alcohol consumption for the weekend? Maybe you don't drink alcohol at all...Either way, what's your favourite drink and feel free to leave recipes also.

For me I don't drink at all not because of anything, but because the day I try to force myself to drink I discovered that I'll be having headache, so nobody advice me to stop, I just told myself that this thing is not good for my health.
For me I don't drink at all not because of anything but because the day I try to force myself to drink I discovered that I was having headache,so I told myself that this thing is not good for you. many people drink for reasons, there are those that drink for fun at the end they will get drunk, and there are those that can not stay without drinking in a day, so for me one has to understand how his/her body works, what did my body likes or want so that It's would not be a problem to the body. So When your drinking, drink responsibly.
Yep, drinking can leave one with a headache, nut they say the cure is to drink some more. I'm not sure how well that works though, I've never tried it.
I drink occasionally. A beer sometimes on weekends when we go on a terrace to have a snack before lunch. Also, three or four times a year, I like to have some rum and coke at social gatherings.
I remember getting drunk three times when I was young, the funniest one was when I got my first job and was sent to Italy for 1,5 months. It was in the Piedmonte region, known for its wines.
I made some friends as I was working for a big company, and one of them invited me to have dinner at their uncle`s, who produced some wine as a hobby.
He showed us the cellar and invited us to test every single wine.
It was funny as he was pouring the different varieties into our cups and he was also tasting but doing only small sips and throwing away the rest. I wanted to be polite and drank all the wine he was pouring into my cup :)
That was before dinner, and I managed quite well, but then, after all the food, he brought the home made Grappa and that was just too much!!!!
I've been meaning to try rum but never get around to it. I'm only 52 years old so there's plenty of time for it to happen.
I don't really get into wine in a big way, it's just a drink to me if I'm honest and the different varieties and nuances of it are generally lost on me. I was born in a very famous wine region and know a fair amount about it, but I'm as far from being a wine snob as a person can get.
As an alcoholic from a family of the same, I have had my problems with the stuff. I quickly learn that I don't feel well after I have had too much, which for me is a mere two shots. I can't sleep because I wake up with stomach aches, and I feel drained the next day. Lucky me! It makes me sick!
Unlike you, I do not keep alcohol in my home. This way, I don't drink to excess, and most evenings I don't drink at all. When folks come over, it's byob, or I might buy just enough to make one cocktail each for us. I drink only when I go out to dinner or a club, and then I try to keep it to only one.
Not having alcohol in the house makes a lot of sense for you for sure. It sounds like you have the discipline not to drink excessively though but yeah, not having it there to tempt you is smart.
I don't have the temptation actually. I mean it wouldn't bother me if I never drank alcohol again, and even when I do, I don't get drunk. I don't need it to have fun or feel relaxed or whatever.
I guess we're all different though, and that's how it should be.
Thanks for commenting and your personal story.
Oh I think my brother would 100% agree with 'ol Arnie! So much so that he has his own little brewery going. Still have to taste his beer buuuuuuuuuuuuuut it's no secret, while I love whisky or a chilled glass of chenin blanc, I do not like beer. Well....that is not altogether true. When I lived in Europe and used to travel to different countries to run half marathons I always had a local beer afterwards. And I have to say, they are very different to SA beers. As famous as our local beers are; I'm not a fan. Sorry, @craigcryptoking. I guess your artisan green fingers speciality is excluded
I'm not a fan of beer either, it makes me pee a lot.
🤣
I know a few who do this and make a reasonable drop.
I'm such an occasional drinker that I tend to be rather selective and don't drink any old thing. I guess that works for me. I'll have a glass of whiskey with you any day.
My drinking is like the famous saying "less is more". But when I do whiskey (with an e or without depending on the Irish versus Scottish influence) wins. Wine I learned to drink in my early hiking days. Of all things. All my hiking friends liked a glass at the end of each day heavy hiking and I learned to tolerate a glass. And ultimately enjoy it. Whisky education happened when I lived in Scotland and started visiting different distilleries on my very rare day off. Ice versus spring water. Whisky versus whiskey. The rest, as they say, is history.
I used to be the ice guy when it came to whiskey but generally now Input in a small measure of spring water as you say, it's amazing how it brings the whisky alive. Having said that, air have a couple bottles in the cupboard and both have gone untouched for over a year. 🤣
I don't drink at all, but I experienced drinking once in forced way. Three months before my legality, my uncle asked me to take some shotd with my cousins even I don't want. He asked permission to my parents, and they agreed. I drank a beer in three full glasses, and I feel that my boosted up. Some of my cousins who drank a lot was being wasted, but I can say that I still look strong. I have a clip of them doing weird things, but I can't upload them without their consent haha
Interesting. I think many drink because of peer pressure. I wonder, how did you feel after you had that experience and is that why you don't drink now?
I love Milk even now though, I think I one drink once using a very small glass. It was a mixed of Gin and Tang Grapes with Coke. I can't remember how it taste though coz it's been 6 years already since I tasted that, lol. I already tried Novellino coz Mom allowed me to drink it, just twice. To be honest, I want to get drunk and know if what I'm like if ever I get drunk, lol. But then again, nevermind. I'll just go with my Milk hihi.
Haha, yeah getting drunk is overrated I think, stick with the milk!
I have heard many say that having a glass of milk before starting to drink does not make you drunk, the truth is that eating snacks while drinking worked a lot for me. I like Whiskey on the rocks (ice only) and as I slowly take glorious sips the ice melts into the Whisky, it tastes great. Dancing is another method so that alcohol does not go to your head.
Ohhhh, I can use this info in the future. Might as well follow this if ever I decided to have some hehe. Thank You (✯ᴗ✯)
I don't drink at all. My step dad was an alcoholic and he often abuse my mum whenever he's drunk. This made me hate alcohol to the bones probably cus it reminds me of those events. I don't see myself tasting alcohol ever.
I love juice and soda drinks before but I've stopped. Trying my best to reduce my sugar intake. Now I only take non-alcoholic wines occasional and I take lots of water.
I'm so sorry you had to witness that growing up, it is so wrong. I totally understand your choice to stay away from it as a result and have a lot of respect for that.
Thank you so much for your kind words🙏
That's understandable; a man (or woman) who act in such a manner should know better than to continue to drink alcohol. But, many do not. It's sad that you had to witness such things, and that your mother was subjected to it.
I'm a water drinker also; as a diabetic, drinking sugary things and alcohol aren't that good for me so it's a sometimes thing.
Thanks for your comment.
I'm just glad she's out of that situation and happy now. Water is still the best choice. Thanks for the reply❤️
I like your photo. Personally I choose not to drink for the most part, I might on a very special occasion have a champagne toast or if I'm celebrating something big like a life milestone, I might indulge in a Hazelnut liqueur with lemonade or on the rocks. I don't know the first thing about wine and generally steer clear of it - I can't stand the taste (or smell) of beer so goes without saying really.
I'm with you, and to be completely honest, if I never had another alcoholic drink in my entire life it wouldn't bother me too much at all. There's special occasions though I guess and that can be ok I think. I'm the guy who likes being in control of himself, it's a learned habit I guess through certain things I've done, and so excessive alcohol and that doesn't mix, so I show discipline.
I am wit u bro on this one... "KT" got no time for drunk n'ess.
I do like a beer now and again.
The part where we differ on the alcohol in our past.
I have been snot slinging face planting drunk only 3 times too...
Three Thousand!
what a wasted youth (smfh)
Lol, only three thousand? 🤣
So...a total of three thousand and three times between us huh? Totally evenly split. 3 to 3,000.
Mmmmmm...
A whole different euphoric experience this morning.
Brrrr...
It is Cold outside!!
Coffee Season is back.
You're heading into colder weather and we're heading to the heat. No fear though, I'll make iced coffees! (I make really good ones!)
Your On my Bucket List...
Coffees & croissants if not a campfire & beers.😉
Either works, but let's do both!
A subject close to my heart as I love a drink. Beer, Whisky, rum, wine you name it. I am a bit of a snob these days though as I like a nice single malt whisky or a nice craft beer, Hazy IPA's are my current favourite and I am rather fond of a Stout or Porter as well. I have quite a capacity for boozing but like to keep it under control and several times a year I will voluntarily have dry spells to show it who's boss.
My name's @scubahead and I'm a Alcoholic 😜
Yes, I recall you like to have a drink or several. Do you drink every day and if so home many?
I can go months without having any alcohol and don't miss it, and then I might have it regularly for a week or more depending on what's going on in my life, the events that I hold here or have to go to. I'm more of a social drinker I guess, and am actually quite content not to have any.
I don't drink every day but the number of days I do outnumbers the number I don't :). If I'm having a few beers at home of an evening it would more likely be 2 or 3. If friends are around triple that. If we pop out to the pub 5 pints would be a quiet session :)
5 pints is a quiet session? More than I drink in a month. 🤣
haha in the UK its normal. I've worked in a lot of pubs when I was younger and it was quite normal for people to stop in for 2 or 3 pints after they finished work before they went home. then they'd eat and be back again a few hours later
Australia used to have a strong drinking culture also, but I think that's changing slightly. I'm ok with drinkers as long as they don't get aggressive. People that get like that need a lobotomy.
I have been drunk like twice in my life, not because i really wanted to drink but because i wanted to impress my friends, Like you said i also agree with you, that drink is not for the young nor grown up, My two experience have really given me lessons to learn, and with that i have decided that drink is not for the right minded persons, this is my personal opinion, On my first drinking experience, if not that God showed up for me by bringing a good friend my way, i dont know what should have become of me.
I was with a new set of friends, in a very new environment, we were trying to familiarize and it was a time to merry, it was not even beer, but spirit. it was mixed with liquid milk, trust me it was good , but unknown to me how it will be , so i enjoyed myself and was competing with the guys, I was almost being taken in a wheel , to my house, and abandoned there, i was there misbehaving for hours, until my friend came to my rescue.
After that experience i decided that i will not be friends with drink. for me drinks are for heavy hearted, to help them forget some of their sorrows.
Sometimes it's takes an experience like this to show a person what they shouldn't do, or what they don't want to do. Being drunk is a loss of control and when that happens, well, anything can happen without a person willfully wishing it to. I'm not one to like being in that condition and clearly, neither are you.
Not a huge drinker, but, I do like a glass of wine now and then. Mostly on the weekends, and usually not much. I am fine with that. I like a little brandy in egg nog, but only at Thanksgiving and I like Amaretto at Christmas. Too complicated?
Give me water. I like that always. :)
Nah, not too complicated...it sounds like a nice balance. And yep, water works.
I don't drink anything that contain alcohol
Yes, I think there are many who say the same.
I used to drink alcohol during my younger days but these days I am not fond of it. I don't have an urge to drink and they are expensive in Singapore too. Tea and coffee are my favourites now.
I'm getting a lot of comments like this on this past, used to drink but not now. I find it interesting.
Perhaps it's a combination of health and cost factors! ;)
Maybe, I think it's partly a cultural thing also.
I only drink beer or any alcoholic beverage when I am around people I trust or I am with my family. Drinking with total strangers is kind of uncomfortable to me.
I agree with you completely and am a little the same. I'm happy to have a few drinks when I'm home having a BBQ or dinner party with friends; when out though, it rarely happens.
I do drink alcohol occasionally, and while drinking, I don't know why but I want to have always some food in my hand, that's a bad habit though, but I cannot help it. I can easily get drunk when I have no food in my hand, and eat all the time. 😅
Occasionally drinking is ok I think, it's when it gets excessive that the problems start. I drink so rarely that I don't even call myself a drinker. I don't mind having one now and then in a social setting though, and usually I'm eating to, like you do.
Once I got drunk on rum, it was a bet between my aunt, my sister and some friends to see who drank more and what we did when we got drunk. I drank the tall glasses filled with rum and finished them before they did. When I felt that the floor was making holes in me and that I wanted to vomit, I stopped drinking, I had already won the bet because the bottles had already finished. It was the cure so that I never wanted to drink rum again in my life, rum is horrible, but I think you won't believe me, you'll have to check it out for yourself.
I don't even drink at parties anymore, my youthful years have passed. Besides, I've had a gallbladder operation and I think that's hurting my liver. When you take it, you must know how far to go so as not to do things that we regret the next day.
I've never tried rum and from what I've been told I probably don't want to. Maybe I'll give it a go if the opportunity arises but I doubt I'll go out of my way to do so. I don't think I'll be having any drinking contests either. Sounds terrible.
It was extremely horrible and I didn't even tell you about the hangover. But that helped us to stop inventing with the drink, after that respect is taken.
Yep, the hangover aspect is horrid and something I'm happy to never have to worry about. Three of them was enough. I'll never have another one.
In my area, those who don't drink are looked upon with suspicion. Are you sick? - That's the first thing they ask you... 😅 I don't like hard liquor, so it's mostly beer, sometimes wine. There have been breaks of 3-4 months without any drugs or alcohol, and those were unforgettable days, really!
Yep, it's the same here, or has been in the past, in Australia where the drinking culture is stong. I never bowed to the pressure though.
💪
I don't drink, but when I do, I drink dark beers, gin or rum.
I don't like the feeling of being inebriated, so I tend to keep it in one or two servings per time.
Always had (in various lodgings) that annoying drunken neighbor who suddenly drops in fully loaded at the most awkward times. Don't want to be that guy.
I don't think I've ever had a dark beer, or if I have I don't recall. Rum is something I've never tried but I like a gin and tonic for sure. I'm also with you on the getting drunk thing, it's not something I do and on the three occasions I did, over 30 years ago I didn't enjoy it.
I have a love/hate relationship with alcohol.
I just don't drink enough to get hangovers now days.

The hangovers aren't so good. I've only ever had three, and that was three too many.
beer is kinda disgusting but wine.. wine is good. :D :D
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of beer, but there's a few I'll drink, mostly when I'm eating particular foods. I've had a few good wines though, and have quite a few decent bottles in my little collection.
I like a good Old Parr Whisky on the rocks, its woody taste is nice and occasionally a beer or red Cabernet wine in 2 glasses, I like this one with a good meal.
I don't drink anything sweet because it goes to my head too fast and buehhhhhh (laughs-9 better not tell that part ...hahahah . Without a doubt, water is my favorite
Only on weekends if there is the money for it because here in my country the prices of spirits are very high.
I have the occasional whiskey these days and don't mind a wine now an then; a cabernet merlot usually. Alcohol is costly here too but due to me being a very occasional drinker I tend to opt for the higher-end stuff as it lasts a good while in my household.
Uhmmmmm that sounds good; if it is definitive of high range and only once in a while on the weekend, it is not bad, for sharing even with oneself to enjoy the intimacy listening to good music.
Sometimes a few things combined can make for an enjoyable moment: Music, snacks and a glass of cabernet merlot are three such items.
For that scenario, it's a great Yesssss and that's called living in the now, it's also good for your health in all aspects ☮️
