Yes, I know a lot of people don't and some just use the quick lube axel thing, but my dad always taught me to tear them apart so I can get eyes on the bearings. That way I can look for pits and damage that could leave me on the side of the road one day. I did all four wheels this evening in just under two hours. In two weeks we will be on the shores of Black Lake.
No, it doesn't. I always feel bad when I see people along side the road because they neglected the simple service. I actually carry all the tools with me so I could replace one on the side of the road if I needed to. Hopefully I never do!

It's a small investment for a big potential gain...being overtaken by one's own caravan wheel whilst barreling down the highway won't often end well.
