@galenkp I'm expressing thanks for another weekend engagement concept because it has helped me come up with articles about topics I never would have thought to write about.
If you want to participate in this weekend engagement concept check out @galenkp article by clicking here and make sure you don't plagiarize because that's a big offense.
I'm picking the second topic which is ; WHAT IF WE HAD NO ELECTRICITY
What if we had no electricity
Imagine there was no electricity anywhere in the world from right this moment. What would your life look like, how would you handle it and what negatives, problems, or benefits, do you think you’d encounter? Would it be good or bad?
All these images were designed by me using Canva app and it has only been used on this article and big huge thanks to @galenkp for this topic which enabled me to come up with this design
Life as we know it would be very different if all of our power sources were to be lost at this moment due to a catastrophic incident or a worldwide viral attack on all electronic devices. Most certainly, life would come to a full stop without the electricity that runs both our homes and our businesses.
In this scenario, Transportation would be one of the first things affected. Without electricity powering our cars and airplanes( electric), society, as we know it today, would not exist. We have become so reliant and accustomed on these types of transportation that very few people outside of professional drivers could get around without them.
If our current modes of transport were gone, then more than half the population of the world would have no means to get food or supplies from hunters and gatherers in rural areas, nor any way to bring their goods to a wider market where more people live. Cities would empty quickly, and only a small number of people who could produce their own food or grow it within walking distance would be able to survive. Once famine ensued, many more people would die.
Another thing that will likely be affected is electricity in homes. The majority of people in today's society have their own light switches and outlets where they can plug in microwaves, toasters, hairdryers for example for convenience. However, without any type of power source, these electrical appliances would not be feasible or at least very limited to what one could use them for.
Sincerely if there's a blackout from this moment it would be bad but I don't think it would be really bad because life has been in existence before electricity was discovered but things were done more manually than now and it takes more energy to get somethings done and it will just be like we are going back to the old age.
While writing this, another thought came to my head and instantly I felt, no electricity would be good in some ways also because we won't spend over 3 hours glued to our television screen or our mobile gadgets and now we would be forced to work on ourselves more than ever and the funny part is that we would make more friends in our neighborhood because when there's no electricity, you can't stay the whole day inside your room. You will have to come out to communicate and associate with people outside.
I feel life would be normal if there's no electricity in a way that when there's no electricity, we might not need refrigerator at home because all we will all eat is fresh foods and in this way we will all be healthy and physically fit and therefore we will tend to live longer than now and whenever we need to preserve food that we cooked the previous night, we would just place it in a jar and pour some vinegar and salt to it and that's the best way of preserving food.
When it comes to washing of clothes, we will have to wash manually because we can't make use of washing machine since there is no electricity and also when we need cold water we will likely use the old age technique of storing water by storing it in a mud pot overnight and it gets cold overnight but that means no more iced tea or water because I don't think there's a way to make that when there's no electricity.
To compensate for this, it would probably be smart to go back to the old ways of cooking food with wood-fired ovens, heating up water on a stovetop. Another option is having enough solar panels or other energy sources like wind turbines to power certain devices like phones and laptops when needed.
However, these sources of energy, while renewable, are still not without their own problems. For example, wind turbines need to be placed in specific locations that have a high-enough wind resource for them to work properly and produce significant amounts of electricity.
Solar panels only work during the day with the right amount of light intensity, and even then they are not 100% efficient. If someone wants to use them outside, they would need sufficient amounts of space for this purpose.
Another big factor that would be affected would be how we communicate when our sources of energy are gone, communication methods like radio and TV broadcasts would be useless. The days of the radio would be over. The days of the internet would also be gone if there was no internet access.
Without the internet, there would be no more emails, no more social media, no more forums, and no online shopping. All of these would be gone if electricity was completely unavailable.
From these scenarios, it becomes quite clear that without electricity life as we know it would be drastically different. While today's society might seem like it couldn't survive without all the conveniences of modern-day, humanity has survived throughout the years through hundreds of thousands of years with no electricity at all.
I think it will both have good and bad side but whatever the case may be, we humans still survive.
