200 meters

IMG_4686.jpg

The 28th of October is a big national holiday in Greece and all the museums and archeological sites are open to the public, for free. So I took the opportunity to visit the castle that I see every morning, the last seven months but I haven't been inside for more than a year!

So I left the busy roads of the town just before the beginning of the student parade and climbed the 200 meters (around 650 feet) of the Palamidi hill. The town is Nafplio, Greece's first capital and it is full of history and memories!

The weather was brilliant and the view of the old town just wonderful! In the picture above you can see almost all my world, for the last half of the year. The beach that I go for my daily swim, on the left, the pedestrian footpath around the peninsula, the port and the old town itself! A charming little place to live one day after another in a predictable and calm way.

I mentioned the student parade before and you might wonder what kind of holiday that is. Well it is not very easy for a foreigner to understand it but we are celebrating our involvement in World War II. And if you are also wondering why we are celebrating the beginning and not the end of a war, I am afraid that I can't give you a comprehensible answer. It would take an in depth analysis into the psyche of the Greeks which is not the purpose of this post or my intention altogether.

Actually my intention is to simply illustrate a beautiful Saturday morning (yesterday) and respond to the writing suggestions placed by @galenkp in the Weekend-Engagement topics: WEEK 177.

It took me one hour and a half to find myself back to the entrance having seen a fair amount but not the entire castle. It would take quite a few hours to fully explore it but I am living so close that I can hope for more opportunities in the future :)

Thanks a lot for your support!

Seeing it from the outside is impressive enough, but the excitement definitely starts when you enter... How I would love to visit it, too bad it's so far from my area. It has good lighting all around, perfect for taking pictures and besides, the view from the castle is phenomenal. Greece is a country I would definitely like to visit before I die. Now that I read you, I know that October 28th is a pretty auspicious date if life ever allows me to do so. Happy Sunday bro!.

Thank you very much for stopping by, I am glad you liked the pictures and I sincerely hope that you'll get the chance to visit it yourself one day!
I would like to visit Venezuela myself but as you said it's so far away :)

Have a nice week ahead!

Hi @fotostef you are lucky and me thanks to you, because with your excellent photos I can admire these impressive historical sites of Greece.

A respectful and virtual hug 💙

Thank you very much for your kind words!
I am glad you enjoyed the post :)

How envious of you I am, living in such a great area. I hoped the pictures would be endless 😄, they're very beautiful. I have a thing for old buildings, and yours are great shots of them. Plaudits.

I hope that someday you'll make a post about the psych of Greeks and why you celebrate the beginning of the war. I believe, and for evident reason, that your rendition of that history would be more interesting than what Google has. 🙃

Thank you very much for your kind words @uchelee :)

I hope you'll have the chance to visit and enjoy our area yourself!

As for the post about the psych of Greeks, thank you for the vote of confidence but I am not sure that I am up to the task :)

Haha, I understand.

You're welcome.

Beautiful place I must say. Its nice to visit this type of place where we experience archeological experience. Great post and photos @fotostef

Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it!

Oh, Greece, the place where I would like to live. Loved your post, the views are beautiful and I'm glad you took the opportunity to visit that castle.
I love that sea. My goodness, what a beauty.

😍

Thank you very much @nanixxx for your kind comment!
I am really glad you enjoyed the post :)

Σαν βασιλιάς ζεις εσύ εκεί στο Ναύπλιο 👌🏻 φαίνεται ήσυχα αλλά δεν νομίζω να είναι και πολύ, λόγω τα καράβια, ή δεν περνάνε πολλά καράβια εκεί;
Αλήθεια, πώς και δεν έκανες φωτογραφίες στην παρέλαση;
