Chasing Dreams on a Weekend: My Study Goals

What happened when you were in the classroom designated and smart people on board? The class was not boring; you had to be attentive for any sudden objections or disagreements with the presenters' presentations. The battle of wits among everyone, each with their own profession, gave me insights into different fields. We, licensed professionals like myself, bound together to study every weekend for the whole day from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Yesterday was Saturday, and I spent the whole day in the classroom. And here is my weekend diary:

The story starts when my mother woke me up in the morning, reminding me that my class would start early. I shouldn't be happy about being treated like a child, but I'm grateful to have my mother by my side, still waking me up and already preparing everything I need, from coffee to the lunchbox I would take to school.

I told her it was cheaper for me to bring my lunch. The canteen inside the university has prices similar to a restaurant. Reminded me that it was a private college where rich people come and go, but I am not rich, so I never pretend to be one. I don't care about other people's flaunting their wealth.

I arrived on time at 7:45 and was in line for students while the guard checked everyone's identification card. However, the professor arrived late at 9:00 in the morning, so we had an hour of chitchatting with my new friends. One of them is an older brother who also wishes to take the Education Unit like the rest of us.

He was telling a story, but I honestly couldn't understand what he was saying. Later, I figured out what he was telling me. He was 67 years old but didn't look like it; he still looked young despite his age. We easily bonded because of my professional approach. He took Business Administration in 1997, and I told him I wasn't even born then. He was shocked, but I explained that I was born in 1999, and he nodded. He also had a son born in 2000, and he had been married twice. In 2013, he finished his Nursing degree and obtained a professional degree, but never used it in medical practice.

He also opened up that he was worried that his age gap might not give him good opportunities. I told him about my plan to finish my master's degree and, if possible, obtain a doctoral degree before my 30s. I saw myself in him. I don't know about being as smart as he is, but I would love to think that at 67, I am still able to engage with the younger generation and continue to learn and process new ideas. It might be difficult for him to engage with technology since he was competing with education and family life he had.

Then a new person arrived, and I even asked myself, 'Do I look friendly?' It seems that people want to get to know me. I am not shy, but meeting new faces as new students give me a new opportunity. I made new friends last weekend. One is a farmer who has his own goat farm, and we discussed some aspects of raising goats in the backyard. Another friend is a brother who works at the LTO (Local Transportation Office) and could give me some assistance in renewing my driver's license in the future, LOL. As I want to be friends with everyone, maybe I will try to get to know more people in the next class, and hear their stories.

As I said, the classroom was not boring since it was equipped with air conditioning and everything was ready. However, the professors assigned us five books to read, understand, and summarize for a class report. Although it was challenging, I had no choice but to focus on it. The books varied in genre and author, and I needed to make a PowerPoint presentation on each one. I couldn't help but wonder if the four professors coordinated with each other since they assigned the task on the same day and gave us only one week to complete it. It seemed crazy to me, but I was determined to do my best.

But of course, it was the weekend, so I took a break from my studies. I enjoyed a small sip of alcohol later at night, and I felt refreshed. How about you? What did you do this weekend?
