Weekend Engagement 110: The power of erasing memories

HivePH webinars Filled with comprehensive knowledge and experience (3).png

While looking around the communities, I found the Weekend Experiences. It was a new community that found since I entered Hive a week ago. Reading some articles there was fun and I learned some things about writing. Usually, I just roamed around, upvoting and leaving some comments. But this time, I reblogged. I don’t know the importance of reblogging before this time.

I saw their newest writing prompt titled [WE110] Weekend-Engagement concept. It was initiated by sir @galenkp, the admin and founder of the said community. There are five situations you can choose from the questions he made, and out of five questions. This is what I picked, “What if you could erase memories?”

“If you had the power to erase the memory of three people, either alive now or from history, who would you choose and why? What impact do you feel it would have?” These are the subquestions and the very based of the story.

You will reach a certain point in your life that you would be pleased to destroy and wipe out your very own memories. The memories that full of hardships and mistreatments. This may present something bigger in your future, but in any case, we admit it or not, it helps us substantially. Who would wish for others to wipe out their memories for their gain? Well, many people would do that and grab the opportunity to do so.

Our world is powered by inventions, developments, and innovations. Without these three things, human civilization would not reach the point where we are now. Most likely, we are nomads, wandering somewhere in the earthly realm. In addition, the world’s science is heightened and more well-developed than in previous centuries. Inventions in different fields like medicine, architecture, the machine, weapons, and technologies are of service to humankind.

Why I will erase the memories of these three people?
Thre are great inventions discovered and made by famous scientists. The top three names I would like to erase their memories are Alfred Nobel, Wei Boyang, and Ferdinand Magellan. Perhaps, some of you knew these people, especially all my fellow Filipino writers out there. Who’s Filipino wouldn’t know the name Ferdinand Magellan, right? It is way impossible to not recognize his name because this man changes and flips the Philippines upside down.

I respected the names I mentioned a lot because they made a great contribution to our world. Alfred Nobel is such a powerful man who made the Nobel Prize. His contributions are unparalleled, but his invention of dynamite became a worldwide problem today. The use of dynamite created a powerful impact use for excavating and mining that severely affected our environment. Dynamite fishing can destroy its nearby coral reefs and sea life.

Wei Boyang was such a great writer and inventor from China. He discovered the gunpowder accidentally by creating an elixir of immortality. Since the discovery of gunpowder, they use it as power in their weaponry. In current times, the number of victims of guns rises each year causing thousands of lives put to death. In 2019, Brazil, the United States, and Venezuela are the leading countries that have the highest report related to gun deaths. It was reported about 49,436, 37,038, and 28,515 respectively.

Ferdinand Magellan was very popular in the Philippines. Just hearing his name made my heart excited and sad at the same time. He discovered the Philippines date back in 1521. Others don’t know this but Spaniards colonized the Philippines for 333 years between 1565 to 1898. Our Filipino ancestor’s cultures, beliefs, and traditions changed a lot. The colonialization brought historical damages, and until now Spanish culture still lives in our hearts.

The impacts of erasing some part of their memories
My heart is aligned with the support of our agriculture and fishery. The beauty of our environment becoming uglier due to various illegal activities performed by unwanted and unpermitted companies scattered all over the world. One thing I cannot bear to see is the sight of our home, our environment becoming destroyed every day. Such a pity that some inventions would create and recreate such impacts.

Only a few people are severely affected by dynamite mining and dynamite fishing. But we’re not talking about the people, but about our environment. The more people would see the effects of such things, the more they can recognize the real problems. I would love to see mother earth breathing fine without the damage humans inflicted.

I believe that if the use of gunpowder and its existence would cease in the world. I can see the crime rates in the world would drop significantly. Can you imagine a policeman without a gun? A soldier without a weapon in war? Even a civilian owning none of the guns? What a safe place for everyone, isn’t it? A big, wide world without the fear of getting caught in a gun fight.

If only Magellan didn’t happen to discover the Philippines, I think most of the Filipinos would not have done great damage in their history. A long, long history of colonialization triggers a revolution toward Philippine independence. Such historical events for Philippine history. Contemporary life would be meaningful and cultures are way different now.

Thanks so much sir @galenkp.

Great read Denn, I learned something new.

He discovered the gunpowder accidentally by creating an elixir of immortality.

In search of immortality, man found a way to lessen the lifespan of other people such irony. I guess we can't find the elixir in this lifetime?

That's the bad side of his discovery. Instead of immortality, it shortens some human lives.

Yay! 🤗

Thanks so much for this @ecency and master @tpkidkai. Hihi.

This would be great if we can do this kind of thing especially those 3. It would have been better now.
All we can do now is to become responsible for every actions we take.
Will look into the challenge and join.

Yeah. That's a big WHAT IF for me bro. I wonder what will happen if the history was changed. Yeah, the challenge still continues bro.

I didn't know that the Philippines was discovered by the Spaniards just like all of the Americas, do they speak Spanish?

What a great and interesting post, I want to congratulate you for this post and welcome you to hive, I'm sure you will do great, you started off very well.

I was about to answer this question, Adolf Hitler's name was in my head but I gave it up because I honestly didn't feel ready to answer it and after reading your post I'm glad I didn't 😆

It's a pleasure to read posts like this, thanks and see you soon. @dennnmarc

Some parts of the Philippines can and know how to speak Spanish. Unfortunately, my province doesn't. I speak a little, just basic greetings and daily conversations.

Thank you so much. I am glad for everyone's support. So overwhelming! I really enjoyed being here and interact with y'all.

Adolf Hitler is famous one for his actions. And we know what it is. You post about no electricity. Thanks for coming by miss @soyunasantacruz.

Very interesting Denn. History may indeed be different if the memories of these 3 people have been erased prior to them doing what they did :)

Yes miss @ifarmgirl. Especially the name Magellan. Haha. What if he didn't discover the Philippines? What another life for Filipinos.

I wonder what would have happened without that part in the country's history :)

Para akong nagbasa ng history book ,😅..
For Magellan, if he didn't discover Philippines..what do you think it is now? There is a positive impact as well...

Hmm. I think Philippines would have one unique culture and is not diversified. Oh diba, may na tutunan kang bago ate @jane1289. Hihi.

Those are not really new to me...narinig ko na sla dati haha...
But I guess that's what makes the Philippines more fun...the mixture of different cultures in one place...it seems like all races in the world can be found in the Philippines 😂😂.

That’s one thing I like about diving into posts on Hive, I learn something new with each read. I definitely wasn’t aware about that piece of Philippine history. I definitely understand your take on the gunpowder but unfortunately if it wasn’t that it will always be something else. There are so many ways to inflict chaos and damage. If it’s in someone’s heart to do so they would still find a way.

Thanks for an interesting read ~

I am glad you learned something new from my humble blog. I intentionally add some history of the Philippines so that non-Filipinos would know. Thanks so much mam @crosheille.

I think it’s great you always add a bit of history.

You’re very welcome ~ 😉

I did not know about Wei Boyang and his gunpowder discovery. Worth a read. 😊

Thank you. Wei Boyang is an ancient person and highly possible that you really don't know him. Thanks for coming by miss @chichi18.

Hello and welcome, excellent post, I have learned several topics that I did not know and I find interesting, thanks for sharing, I wish you, health, success, prosperity and dreams come true.

Thank you so much mam @thaismarags. I am glad you found this interesting and that you learned something from my humble piece. I claim all the blessings. You too, be prospered and succesful.
