My top three tips for better health after turning 40

Hello friends,

It's been a little over a year since I passed 4 decades of life and for many it marks that point where they say that one enters a dreaded crisis which is the mid-life crisis.

In my case my youthful spirit has not caused me such a crisis, but I have applied some health tips to improve my mental mood through 3 main axes which are food, physical activity appropriate to my physical condition and rest.

Physical activity

As we get older, for some metabolic reason, our bodies tend to slow down our metabolism and energy expenditure in daily activities is lower.

Therefore, even before I turned forty and even more so once I have passed the age of forty, I have incorporated into my weekly activity, depending on the time of year, a series of additional physical activities to improve my cardiovascular health and also my mental health through the release of endorphins through sport.

In the summer months, taking advantage of the good weather and the fact that I live near the coast, swimming in the sea is one of those activities that helps us to improve our health while having fun at the same time.

In times when the water is very cold, I prefer walks in the mountains as an activity.

Including bike rides and if it is with company, all the better.

Food

As I said before, I am in full control of my overweight and even more so now that I am over 40 years old.

In terms of food, I have changed some habits such as eliminating certain unhealthy breakfasts based on coffee and potato omelette for breakfasts with fruit and toast with virgin olive oil.

I am incorporating more and more salads into my meals. And so as not to fall into the routine of a lettuce, onion and tomato salad, I am always incorporating other ingredients such as chicken, fish, etc. into them.

And when I dine out, on my business trips, I have taken meat out of my dinners and replaced it with fish. In fact, on Wednesday I had a spectacular plate of grilled monkfish for dinner in Castro Urdiales that has nothing to envy the best piece of meat.

Rest

The third leg of the stool that is increasingly important in impacting my mental and physical health is rest.

Adjust the hours of rest and, above all, establish daily routines for going to bed and getting up without exceeding the time spent in bed unnecessarily.

The days when you sleep in one go and free your mind without dragging the day's problems are the perfect restart for the organism to start a new day.
