We found this place (Alto de San Lázaro)

Hello everyone, I hope you enjoyed the weekend. My partner works home and this time I accompanied him and on one of the deliveries we came across this interesting place.

We had plenty of time to explore before the next order came in, so we took the opportunity to take some photos.

This church is another important place in the city of Tunja. We had never been here, but we knew a bit of the context of the history from the internet.

The Alto de San Lazaro, called by the Muiscas "Meguvala".
"Meguvala", was the place where those convicted of crimes such as robbery and murder used to be executed by hanging. It was also a commercial exchange point for the roads that led to Hunza, Actual Tunja and several indigenous communities between the departments of Boyacá and southern Santander.

We were confused because we didn't know if it was a tomb.

When the Spaniards arrived in the area of Hunza, they called this hill "Loma de los Ahorcados" (Hill of the Hanged). Two years after being in these lands, on August 6, 1539, on the site of the capital of the Zaque (Hunza), the city of Tunja was founded.

It was in the year 1587 when the works of the temple of San Lazaro began. This building is called doctrinero temple, built during the colony by religious orders that share architectural characteristics and the purpose of evangelization of indigenous populations, part of the conquest policy established by legislation of the Spanish crown.

We took some pictures of the view of the whole city from up here. You can see how green and small the town is, it's almost impossible to imagine that it has so many dark stories.

It was a little scary because the place was desolate.

Sometimes we miss exciting places. That's why I like to accompany my partner, you never know what wonders we may encounter.

Thanks for reading friends. ♡
