The Weekend of the Craftsman: Getting work done!

in Weekend Experiences4 years ago (edited)

Another weekend comes and just now I realized, I haven't posted anything in 5 days. It isn't unusual. However, I've been engaging in comments and answering some other and keeping myself busy.

I started making another Venezuelan Cuatro. But I've been more focused in doing the work than taking pictures. My train of thought on this is the fact that previous posts (soon to be collections) have all the steps and elements of didactic material for anyone interesting in a thorough photo session in the making of an instrument. That's time to relax and keep my head and hands at work.

It took me 3 days to finish this neck. Carving the heel is still a big load of work because I'm doing it with a knife. It the future, I'd love to have a bench jigsaw. That way I could speed up the process even further. Why not having a lot of necks ready to go?

In the other photo, I have both sound board and back of this instrument. It takes less time to get them ready since I had glued then previously. Also, yesterday night, I got some insight into the construction of instrument by a nice friend who lives in Peru. I even got some pictures and voice messages explaining somethings that I already knew, but haven't put into practice. Needless to say, this is a better insight than that pesky group.

And when I thought my day couldn't be better after getting a lot of work done. Well, nature gave me this filter to itself. The sunset with clouds gave us this light. It was wonderful! However, it also meant I needed to get stuff under the roof since it was going to rain. And lo, rained it did. The light effects were part of the 41st tropical storm of the season.

There was also the bad part of the night when lightning hit something and there was a power cut for more than an hour. But it came back later and I was able to get more engagement out of our #weekend-engagement activity. So, everything worked well in the end.

I hope you started your weekend with good footing!

The pink cotton candy colored sky looks super stunning. After a day's worth of work, I am sure it is a peaceful sight to behold.

A bench jigsaw would definitely help with the cutting of curves but even with a knife you seriously did a splendid job. I have never been involved in the process of making an instrument but I can tell its a lot of work 😅.

So, everything worked well in the end.

All's well that ends well

Yes, I came out of the shower and was tacking dirty clothes to the laundry room and had to come back to my room running to pick the phone and take the pictures.

A lot of the carving will be by hand, but it's to get the rough shape easier. I need to make cuts with a hand saw and then start carving. A lot of work! 😅

Oh, more cake!

Ah thank you for clearing this up! I misunderstood the whole process. I thought using machinery would help with majority of the process but hehehehe I was wrong.

I will be checking out some of the older posts to get a thorough idea about your process work.

now now leave some of the cake for us too, sharing is caring (〃 ̄︶ ̄)人( ̄︶ ̄〃)

Don't worry. We are here to help. There's a lot of manual work involved.

For some reason, this reminded me of a children's television series I used to watch when I was 12. It was called Handy Manny (you reminded me of this person LOL). Well Bertrayo, I am sure you are quite handy yourself.

I'm handy in more ways than one. 🤣

Ha, ha, ha. Is that the Gen Z version of Bob the Builder?

Although the most handy man in cartoon history is Spongebob Squarepants

I can't say I'm on the level of any, but I can do some things.

Is that the Gen Z version of Bob the Builder?

LOL I have reached the same conclusion as you here.

Ah Spongebob needs his super smart buddy. 2 brains work better than one 😉

What a wonderful, productive, and successful weekend. I once crafted a pair of beautiful book ends in my shop class in high school. It was over 30 years ago. This post brought back a nice memory.

What a wonderful thing something like this can get people back to good memories. It's never late to start doing handcrafts! 😄
