Weekend simplicity

I'm a busy girl so I like to get good value from my time at work or in my private life. I don't rush through things but certainly seek efficiency by prioritising and streamlining my responsibilities and commitments with the view to create the time I need to handle everything. Life balances, or should I say juggles, its way towards what I like to think of as a nice, enjoyable and comfortable life.

My weekends are very important to me because there's usually no work commitments and with that in mind I try to focus myself during the week to get my housework and chores done freeing my weekend for down-time, relaxation or for doing things I truly want to be doing...and what do I truly like doing? Hmm, a lot of different things actually...and most certainly one of them is not cooking!

I don't enjoy cooking so am fortunate to have someone around who does; that's not to say he loves it, just that he likes creating different things when time permits and does a very nice job at it too. Me...I'm happy to prepare food but can think of better things to do.

Because of my (I should say our) busy lives and how much we value the weekend, we try to minimise the time we spend cooking over weekends focusing on simple, yet tasty and healthy, meal options.

Point in case: Above is lunch I made for myself today; It was just me for lunch today so some strawberries, blueberries, cashews, walnuts and almonds, carrot, crackers and some cheese was as far as I stretched my cooking skills - in fact there was no cooking at all. It was super-tasty though.

We don't eat out much and only bring take-out food into the house occasionally; eating healthily is important to us so the majority of the time we prepare our own food.

It's not complex food but we defer to fresh ingredients over frozen or processed, and healthier cooking methods and that extends to every day of the week, but on the weekend we put a little extra focus on simplicity so we can save some time. That doesn't mean we don't do special meals, we certainly do and they can take longer and be more complex, but saving a little time which can be better spent doing other things is our focus.

Time moves by so quickly; I can recall a time, when I was much younger, I'd never have even thought that but now, for sure time flies and it's for that reason I look for better moments, more valuable and engaging. I juggle the things I need and want to do including my personal time and so cooking on the weekend is something I usually prefer to do in a simple way so I have more time to do other more enjoyable things.

What I see in the picture is very tasty and also very nutritious, which is very important.

I will probably get to a point where I don't want to cook, and what happens to you will happen to me. It's not a bad thing to dedicate time to other things.

At the moment I enjoy it, to vary, to invent things.... that doesn't mean that every weekend I do it, but I feel like it when it's a bit colder. With the heat it's better to do simple things like the one I'm looking at in the picture.

Thanks Becca, a big hug!❤️

Tasty and nutritious combine nicely don't they?

I think it's not so much that I don't like to cook really, more that I have to prioritise my time and at the moment don't feel the inclination to spend it cooking in complicated ways. I'm a reasonable cook and will do so in certain situations but look for simply where possible at the moment.

All the best with your cooking.

I like the idea, I liked the phrase "reasonable cook".

Thank you very much Becca ❤️

Yummy! I love this kind of food. There I would put for me a glass of yogurt. Becca... it's 3 o'clock in the morning here. Me awake, too bad, and now you've made me hungry.

🤣

It's never too early in the morning for a snack right? (It probably is.)

I like your yoghurt idea although I don't like to eat it that much, there's only one yoghurt brand I like to eat so if it's not available I don't compromise; even then it's not something I'll eat much of. I like to have some with fruit sometimes though, strawberries and blueberries mainly, if they're not too expensive to buy.

I hope you're having a good weekend.

That looks like a very healthy snack. Some fruits and veggies, some proteins, and a bit of carbs. I also avoid cooking when I can, that's why I opt for cereal or instant oats.

It was a nice lunch, not too much that I felt full but satisfying. It was easy too which is something I like work towards when it comes to food preparation.

You're absolutely right. Time seems to pass by at an astonishing speed as we grow older. It's fascinating how our perspective on time changes with age. Seeking out better, more meaningful moments is a wise approach to make the most of the precious time we have!

I love cooking but sometimes I do wonder about the value it derives due to the time spend overall (which includes the cleaning). When I'm feeling lazy or wanted a fuss free meal, creating a cheese platter is always a great option! 🤤
