Things that mean nothing

in Weekend Experiences3 months ago (edited)

Spending a lot of time on computers isn't something I like doing; I'm fortunate not to have to for work, have no social media other than Hive and generally stay off computers and other devices as much as I can which is why I've managed to never own my own computer.

I've been using my guy's computer; it works because he has a personal computer and one for work which I'd never touch naturally, and because I'm not interested in using a computer, avoid it where possible, it's usually available if I need it.

Yesterday however, I came home and he was more pleased to see me than usual and it wasn't long until I realised why; he'd bought me a computer! What a sweetie and a nice Saturday surprise.

This is probably when you expect me to talk about my brand new shiny computer and all the amazing specifications...sorry but I'm going to disappoint you because he didn't buy me a new one, he had one of his older ones, about five years old, totally refreshed, rejuvenated, regurgitated, renewed, refixed...I don't know what the word is but it was apparently "slow and clunky," using his words, and now is not so slow and clunky. It's a really nice Toshiba with an Intel Core i7 thing and a Windows thing and some other RAM things that mean absolutely nothing to me. What matters to me is that it turns on and I can make my way to where I need to with a few clicks and can find the off button when I'm finished. That's all I need...and the cute mouse he got me as well of course.

My guy tried to explain something about the RAM thing and something about operating a system or something like that but I wasn't really listening all I wanted to do was try it out. He helped me get it set up with some pages and links and bookmarks, yes I know what bookmarks are, and before long I was tapping away on my own computer making this post.

I didn't know I was getting it, didn't even know he still had it, however we'd had a conversation about buying one for me but I refused to considering I don't use it much. He figured the next best thing was to recondition, or whatever the word is, his old one and he tells me he's really pleased with how it came out and I'm happy we saved a lot of money by not buying a new one.

I called this post things that mean nothing which refers to the computer jargon...what means so much to me is that I have a guy who thinks of these things and wants to provide for me, something I love. I do the same in return of course, and I love how we think alike when it comes to making use of what we have rather than simply spending money on a new thing.

This made me smile.

I've had my own computer for around 25 years. Although I have learned some of those "thingys" you mentioned by default, I never cared about that part either, I really only wanted to know how to make it work for what I wanted it to do and the "how" of the details never interested me at all.

I'm glad you have one not though. That was nice how it all worked out.

It probably sounds quite silly that I don't have much of an idea about computers but I've just had no need to. I have a phone and know how to use it but computers are things I never used much meaning my understanding is basic...clearly. 🙃

Like you, I want it to work and how it works can remain a mystery as far as I'm concerned.

I feel I'm lucky to have my guy, such a nice man...a real man, and his thoughtful little surprise made me so happy.

Thanks for your comment.

You don't need a computer with that one... LOL.

Greetings Becca.

My need for a computer is low but I'm happy to have a boy who was kind enough to arrange one...or maybe he was annoyed I asked to use his all the time?

Becca 🌷

I don't think so, he just wanted you two to have your own laptops to play network games on. 😁 I'm kidding Becca. A hug and I wish you all the best over there.

We play games, not video games though. 🙃

Hahaha... oh, Becca, well done. 😅

As someone that worked in IT, this was very funny to read. I'm glad you have a 'new' laptop to use. If all you're doing is posting hive blogs and maybe watch videos, then it should be more than enough for all of that.

It's a bit funny I suppose, but like you say I only use it to write posts and do my business accounting so there's no need for something more RAM'ed or Intel CORE'ed.

I'm content and happy.

As long as it is able to do what you need it to do, then it's already perfect.

How cool that your guy had that computer and upgraded it for you, that's a nice gesture and they saved a lot.

Specs are important but to know if it will last much longer, computers are the only appliances that get old if you don't use them .... they go out of fashion and require more and more because the internet is always updating and won't support it. The rest.... techie stuff. It makes me very happy. I love computers, in fact I've been working with them for more than 20 years y mi hermano es tecnico, siempre hicimos buen equipo!

Woww the music! You have no idea how much I love that song! one of my favourites!!!

Thank you Becca.💗

I'm just happy to have something I can use without having to bother my guy to use his computer. I'm not really going to be on it much but it will mean when he is away, and takes his personal computer, I will have a computer to use still. As far as the specifications, I'm not all that interested.

That's a good song isn't it?

Becca 🌷

The important thing is the utility it provides, and that is enough.

It's a great song!

Before the mobile era, I wasn't interested in the technical details of anything, I only cared about the practicality of things, and whether it was just a good or bad brand.
Today I try to look a bit further, but only at the basics so I will always need an expert's opinion, which will never be my husband's as he is more lost than me in these matters...in fact he asks me for help...😅

What do you mean by markers?
There will always be people more ignorant than others, for example: me.

My boy lately only brings me ice cream and chocolate sips as gifts, and the truth is that I love them and he knows it, that must be why I have a few extra pounds.

Enjoy the privacy on your new computer, your boy is a good boy.

I tried to listen to his music, but it is not available in my country, due to mental blocks from some people inside and outside.
Nevertheless, I looked up the singer and I thought she was great.

We all probably focus on what we know already or like and occasionally look a little further but I have almost no interest in computers other than needing one to do my business accounting or Hive which I only started about two years ago. I'm happy to have my own computer now though even though it's my guy's old one. I think he's happy that he has his computer to himself again now. 🙃

Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry you couldn't open the music, it's a really lovely song.
