Weekend Engagement - Open Mic Afternoon in Hitchin

in Weekend Experienceslast year (edited)

Hello everyone in this community!

I would like to join here with my first post about some music that happened on Sunday.
Sorry, if I get the title wrong.. does it need a week number? I wouldn't know which right now.. lol

The Coopers Arms in Hitchin hosts their Open Mic roughly once a month; it is run by Mark, who you can see on the right in the first picture. It is only one of the few I go to, but it sure is one of the funnier ones! The people there are all amazing and I love watching them perform; You always learn from them or get inspiration of what else could be possible.

And Marcus is the loveliest guy you can imagine! He normally performs himself and so does his friend Chris who does the sound checks. However this time neither of them played as both were heavily hung-over from Mark's stag do the night before.. 🤣
They went on a pub crawl around Hitchin and there are a fair few to get through!

Mark is getting married in July and he asked me to play as one of the acts there! It'll be an amazing day and the preparations are in full swing.

I am now sharing some pictures from Sunday and a video of me performing some songies. 😁

Rob (left) accompanied by Pete, who is an accomplished singer-songwriter. He was involved with a string of famous people when he lived in London.

Claire with some lovely Spanish language songs, one I can remember is "Quizás, quizás, quizás", the original to "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps". I might give the Doris Day version a shot some time.

Lee, who also writes his own stuff, accompanied by Gary, who is a sought after harmonica player in the local music scene.

Mark introducing Joules who did two lovely songs, one of which was a wonderful rendition of "I fix you" by Coldplay.
You can see Chris back there checking the sound with an empty glass of orange juice; he wore sunglasses a little later.. I wonder why.. 🤣

Black Horse! A blast from the past, Ialways liked that one. Looks like a cool wee night!

You can't beat KT!!!
A blast from the past..
Only it feels like yesterday.. - Oh dear, that's what the old folks say.. 🤣

It was a lot of fun indeed, although not as busy as usual, all the sun seekers shied away, desperate to crowd in that one ray that was hitting us that day.

Great set, Anke! Looks like a lovely pub with an appreciative audience.

Thanks! Yes, it's both of those.. The place is really well looked after, but I'm sure you've been in there with it being on your doorstep..

Good songs.
Love your version of 'Baby Can I Hold You'
