I never stopped being an 'ordinary employee' and I always try to stay as humble as possible. Someone said me once: 'Don't work hard, work smarter'.
Always remember that all the actions in life have an intrinsic 'opportunity cost'. Either in time, money, or effort (usually a combination).
Try to find the mix that suits you.
