Is it good to give away 25 LEO per week, straight from my own pockets, just to boost the numbers a bit in terms of comments or is there a better way of doing things?
I think that it is somewhat sad to pay for engagement, because the engagement should come naturally.
But I currently do not know any way to increase the numbers.
I would also be interested in a better way.
Probably a proper marketing for the Hive blockchain would help. A proper marketing, which highlights the real values of this blockchain.
Steemit made a huge mistake by advertising itself with the money earning opportunity. That mostly attracted the selfish and greedy people. This is why the real, human comments are rare both on the Steem blockchain and on the Hive blockchain.
What would be your suggestion for the marketing approach? I don't think providing incentive is sad, but I do agree engagement should (at least eventually) come natural. Obviously people are fully willing to engage freely without any reward as mainstream social media have shown. Hell, they'll even endure crazy amounts of shitty promo messages.
Now I'm kind of glad this isn't some facebook or insta 2.0, in general the actual content here is much more interesting. When I think about the marketing I'm not sure if Hive is ready for a full blown campaign yet, or rather if the rest of the world is ready for it. It's a certain kind of people that currently comes on here and actually stays. I've seen many posts about people referring friends/family where all of them quit again sooner or later. Maybe what we need to do is look at the type of people that would currently be interested in the platform in the state it's at right now. Identify the audience and then target it as such?

One of the biggest fails we've seen so far, in the history of this blockchain is the "come here and earn a shit ton of money" type of advertising, even though this is still somewhat how I personally think we should market Hive.
I don't want to fool people and I don't want people to come here with high expectations of earning thousands of dollars, but I do want people to understand that we have a superb opportunity here to monetize our content, which the majority of the people never have had the chance to do.

Yeah it's amazing how people from certain countries where wages are very low can actually build something here.
It's probably the vultures flying in for a quick buck at first with this type of advertising, while we need the patient ones who want to put in some work on a consistent basis. People who understand how compounding works so they see the potential of things and don't quit if they only made a few bucks after a month.

Hive and it's communities are actually likely to change the lives of some of those people, so it's a shame that more people don't know that we exist.

The freedom of speech (no censorship) and content preserving are the two biggest values of this blockchain in my opinion. Once you publish something on the blockchain, it will remain there unchanged as long as the blockchain exists. Even if you edit your post, the original will still be there on the blockchain.
Many people on Twitch/YouTube are looking for a censorship-free platform. The Hive blockchain can give them one.
Games on the blockchain like Steem Monsters/Splinterlands can also attract new users.
Good point, there's definitely many people fed up with the extreme censorship on some platforms.
I think Splinterlands plays a huge role in it, also how I ended up here..

It is sad in the sense that it has to be done. We shouldn't have to give away money or have prizes for the most engaging people on a social platform, but the reality is different on this blockchain. That's why I want to do something about it and if my LEO tokens can boost the overall engagement somewhat, I'm all for it.
