There is a sweet version that is eaten with cheese, but these are salty. They can be roasted or fried (the best!) and filled with savory things: meat, chicken, fish, ham, cheese.

My favorite is one called “Reina Pepeada” which is filled with shredded chicken, mayonnaise and avocado.
In my country they are eaten for breakfast or dinner, but they are also cut in small pieces and added to the soup broth.
