The World has watch Canadian Politicians attack and freeze the bank accounts not only of the Canadian Truckers who were protesting in Ottawa, but also those who donated to the protesters.
One case being reported is a single Mom, another I saw citing an 83-year-old woman who lives alone, both of whom claim their donations were made prior to the protests being deemed "Illegal".
It's a fairly concerning situation, especially if your political party isn't in office. As we love to say Bitcoin fixes this, but holding crypto is pretty easy, actually using it as a medium of exchange is much more difficult.
Most of the truckers and those who donated are very likely working class people with Mortgages, Truck payments, and Groceries among their most common expenditures. None of this is easy to accomplish without exchanging the Bitcoin to cash, via a 3rd party often a bank or an exchange both of which would be high risk for anyone the government is trying to seize the funds.
Even in my own financial life, if you looked through my bank account most of the transactions would be paying utilities, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Many bars in my local area do accept BTC, but I don't know if that is a normal or the result of living in a conservative area in a very liberal state. The point is most of my fiat life would not be easily replaced by using #bitcoin
With all the current Bitcoin adoption happening lately, I can imagine we will have quite a few retail outlets and clearinghouses developing more ways to accept BTC, but it still must be pretty difficult.
There is some progress, companies have added Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a way to pay. Tesla began accepting BTC for its vehicles in early 2021 - dropped it in May and added it back in July. In addition PayPal recently developed a payment option as well.
Over years I will expect crypto to change how we pay each other with more p2p (peer to peer) transactions taking place, but I can't see retail and banks making quick progress in this area.
Recently we've seen several nations adopt Bitcoin in full or in part like El Salvador, Ukraine and Russia. Obviously as more people have Bitcoin and have motives to be able to do business with it, hopefully the pace these changes come will speed up.
For your average trucker, single mom or 83-year-old ladies, we are a long way away from financial freedom, but this is the hope and promise of crypto.
Here are a few other places that currently accept BTC.
One could also use a combination of bitcoin and cash to do many things reducing the amount of cash they leave in the bank at risk, and frankly, I'm not at much risk at this point, but I'd just rather not support the banks and large organizations.
Can you live on your crypto, not talking expense wise, talking about practicality.

What is taking place here is the assignment of something illegal retroactively. This crushes the belief system completely.
Just another example how the collapse in confidence in government is upon us. It is going to be a rough patch throughout this decade.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It sure seems like it is getting worse and quickly, laws on the fly, with the smallest justification. I'm only surprised they can so easily drag along so many people to support such insanity, but here we are.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Well, I'd have give a different opinion two years ago. However, crypto is an enemy of the government here. We can't buy or sell crypto with our cards.
But yes, most of my money atm is in crypto. Our fiat currency falls on a daily basis. I withdraw when i need something. Thankfully p2p works perfectly.
Super glad to hear it is working well for you there!
And no problems with your government for now
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
it pains me we can't buy crypto with our cards. Annoying it is. What annoys most is Naira itself. Such a rubbish currency it is.

The protests were unanimously disapproved of by the MAJORITY of canadians.
So is the asset seizure.
Also, if you remember where I live, HELL NO I can't do shit with Bitcoin up here. It's literally just internet points up here. I could try and convince them of the value to exchange it for carvings or food, but they wouldn't go for it. They want cash they can take to a store to exchange for food.
I don't think there is any trustworthy evidence that most Canadians disagreed. But, that's not the point. Protests ARE for disagreement. :)
Asset seizure without due process is completely insane.
"Internet points", ouch. Let's both hope for huge improvements in your locale.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
They seriously don't know what their missing out by just seeing crypto as internet points. Crazy that they don't know how much these internet points have change lives.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Even just blogging on HIVE they (the inuit) could make some okay money due to their extremely unique ways of life.
They do?, it's not normal.. over here we would get strange looks if BTC was mentioned as payment..
Well, we also have a part of the population that doesn't like to deal with banks at all and insist on cash payments. So, I think it's the Rebels.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
More forward thinking than here. I am not a fan of banks. People here just accept it.
😂😂😂😂. Seriously, I can really imagine those looks.

Living on crypto has gotten a lot easier with the emergence of crypto debit cards. The next step is direct crypto spending. That's going to take a long time but it will happen gradually.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Crypto debit cards do not solve the problem mentioned here. You're just as exposed to the risks of the banking system with a crypto debit card as you are with a bank account.
No, but they do offer the closest thing to being able to live on crypto in a lot of countries.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Agreed.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
That's very true as long as the bank issuing the card doesn't get a court order from a pissed off Politician.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Wow, you have crypto debit cards in your country? That is really nice. Would love to have that here. but oh No! my country doesn't support crypto. Too bad for me!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Regulation and censorship of third-party "gatekeepers" are going to be on the rise. My guess is the best option is to find the most Bitcoin-friendly location now, If you intend on living a Crypto-based life.
Censorship has been ignited...
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
not easily replaced yet but it is getting better there are some sites that let you send to pay bills directly like your CC etc
Yep good solution as long as you are in good standing with the bank
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Wow, really. Having sites that let you pay bills with crypto is awesome. So is it with any crypto or there is a specific coin used?
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
i have only found a site that does it with btc
I can't wait for the day when I can do everything in crypto. I don't trust any of the political parties, as it all seems to be controlled by the same people who are just trying to set us against each other so we don't notice what is really going on and unite against them. Same thing in Japan, where I am. I want out of the system. The day when crypto is accepted everywhere can't come soon enough.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I just realized I know almost nothing about politics in Japan.
We do agree however, on the role of politicians.
Bitcoin might not totally fix it, but it's part of the solution.
I just can't believe that things got to that point in Canada. How does an institution label someone a terrorist when this very institution is locking down people's only means of survival?!
I don't think many places accept crypto in my country yet but I hope that changes soon.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Canada has gone mad, hopefully her people will fight back, but how brave they will have to be.
Hope your nation picks up the pace too.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I really do love to move to Canada, but hearing about all these happenings is quite discouraging. Also I hope crypto get accepted in my country as well.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I just don't see many places that accept crypto so the off ramps are kind of bad. Besides the few stores you mentioned, I think a online company who accepts crypto and delivers item might be good as well. However I guess the returns and stuff like that would be horrible.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Off ramps need huge improvements and it's a wake up call to the crypto communities to allocate assets to the spending side of their cryptos.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Freezing people's account isn't just right in any way. To think that the purpose behind the freezing isn't crime cases or fraud issues is more annoying. I mean people can give their money to whoever they want to. Why freeze because she donated to the freedom convoy?
It shows us why it is important to hold money where we have more control over. I
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Murders have their bank accounts, rapists, .. Epstein.
It's utterly insane and meant to send the scary message of.. Don't protest us.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I know right.
I hope this increases the adoption and usage of crypto.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Half the people can't wait for adoption and the other half cannot fathom life without their 'dollars'. I have seen bits and pieces and little glimmers of hope in odd and various places. I saw on a coinstar machine in Publix supermarket the option to take your money in bitcoin. I did give a little 'whoop' when I read that lol.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Nice! Hive and it's easy name wallets, and fast transactions is not a bad means of exchange, I think Dan originally hoped we'd focus more on the currency and less on the blogging, but seems like that side got lost a long time ago.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It's not going to happen overnight for sure but things like this will help with the adoption and the stark reality of the world we live in today. We think we have freedoms but go outside the boundaries or don't pay some taxes and you're screwed beyond repair. It feels like to me governments are becoming more aggressive not only towards each other but towards its people as they start feeling the slip of control leaving them.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
The most dangerous time in an abusive relationship is when you push back or try to leave, and that is exactly what we are seeing in our abusive relationship with the government.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
There was a time when I lived on crypto, paying rent and utilities by exchanging it for cash first. At that time I was not able to get a bank account in the country I had just moved to, and I did not want to use my old bank account for cost and tax related reasons.
It was pretty inconvenient, but it was possible. I also needed a local bank account when I got a job here, so while employed I guess it may not be possible here.
I think it can be done as long as a person is in good standing with the police and state. I'm not doing it yet, my crypto life and my fiat life are like two worlds for now.
Yet, I am Unbanking my assets from the fiat world.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
This is the kind of world I would love to have. Having a fiat world and a crypto world. Truth is as much as I love to live on my crypto, I hate it! Why? it is because I don't get the opportunity to grow my stake/coins faster. So living on it now, just feels I am stagnant and not building any faster but too bad for me, I have little to no choice. Crypto helps my life and has put me in a better. Most especially food in my stomach 😅

If bitcoin is acceptable everywhere the flow of hard currency will reduce which will save money for some countries and central banks in terms of printing money..
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I don't think we will get universal bitcoin adoption, but I do think it's a valuable tool on many levels.

I know #DASH has made a lot of inroads on signing up retailers. They also have decent privacy. I don't think we're too far away from seeing a pretty major explosion in adoption. There are some pretty amazing games starting to come out and those will fuel the younger generation's adoption. We have one of them here on HIVE with that potential in #PysberX.
We are also looking at a potential conservative wave taking back the Congress by year end. While politicians are politicians no matter which side of the aisle you're on, there's no disputing the fact that the red states like Texas, Florida, Wyoming, etc. are much more forward-thinking in their view of crypto then the pseudo-fascist states of the left i.e. California and New York. It will be nothing if not interesting...
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Interesting, been a long time since I saw anyone talking about DASH. They really did have an impressive team for a while.
I loved their whole. MAAS (money as a service) pitch.
Thank you for sharing!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yeah, they now have a wallet and an app you can just scan and click. I haven't actually used it yet but...the list of retailers accepting it is getting pretty long. If I understand it correctly, you basically use the app to buy a retailers gift card on the spot and then use that to pay. You also get a 5% discount for doing so.
That is just a very simplified view of things from a guy who follows along on a fairly regular basis but doesn't spend much time diving in to the details. Definitely do your own research before taking my word for it. :-)
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Incidentally, I kind of view LiteCoin and DASH in the same light and I've just always liked DASH better. I really don't have any technical reasons for that opinion. I think I just liked the "branding" better.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I will dmor, but thanks for the information

Holding crypto is easy but the problem is to transact it, using crypto currency to convert to fiat money is some how difficult in some crypto.

Very few businesses in NZ accept cryptos. We do, but if someone says BTC, although we will take it, first thing we do is suggest Monero or Dash instead.
There are many layers to this, it's like a grand master chess game, and Blackrock are cunning...
It is very complicated!
