For over five centuries, the Sovereign has stood as an enduring symbol of British heritage. From its inception under Henry VII to its modern-day gold editions, the Sovereign is a testament to the rich numismatic history of the United Kingdom. Now, for the first time in its 1,100-year history, The Royal Mint has issued a Silver Sovereign—a groundbreaking moment for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The 2025 Silver Sovereign is an exact replica of its gold counterpart, matching it in diameter, weight, and design. Struck in 999 fine silver to an immaculate Proof standard, this coin is a celebration of tradition and innovation. The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic depiction of St George slaying the dragon, a design synonymous with the Sovereign and admired worldwide. On the obverse, we see the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by Martin Jennings. This combination of classic and contemporary artistry makes the coin a fitting tribute to a new era of British coinage.
The Sovereign’s gold editions have long been prized for their beauty, precision, and significance. For centuries, they have represented the pinnacle of British craftsmanship. This new Silver Sovereign, however, marks a dramatic expansion of the series, offering collectors an opportunity to own a piece of history at a more accessible price point. With a limited mintage of just 50,000 coins, this release is destined to become one of the most sought-after pieces in the Royal Mint’s catalogue. Its appeal is twofold: it retains the prestige of the Sovereign while introducing the beauty of solid silver to the series for the very first time.

Is it the first?, I got one a couple of yrs ago that what touted as the "first", I got some for £10 at the time. I remember because I got 5, one for each of my nephews and nieces.
Just looked at the site, you linked, it does say "one of the first", and I have a feeling that I got mine for a company called "Royal Mint", not the actual Royal Mint, I dunno. You might know the company, they send out offers by post alot
Ahh!, found it https://www.londonmintoffice.org/silver-coins/sovereigns , 2019 looks about right too, and I definitely paid £10 each
London mint = dog shit.... extensive dog shot too. Lol
Turn the coin over. I bet it says Gibraltar, or some place not UK.
I really shouldnt diss the london mint too much, theyve done a handfull of semi-decent coins, but theyre not actually legal tender in the UK. Theyre a procate mint, that like to confuse elderly folks to part with a lotnog money. Usually through monthly subscriptions to cheap, plated tat. I avoid them.
Yea, I got that they were rather dodgy, but I reckoned a pure silver coin was worth a £10 at the time ( I'm a total noob here and don't do anything with coins really) I'd have a look at a coin, but I gave them away a few yrs ago.
So, this one is the real first silver sov then ?
The perfect silver coin to go with my Gold sovereigns. ❤️
