RE: Set for Life

A minimalistic lifestyle does save you a lot of money but keeps you lonely.
Why would someone save $25000? One should save 3/6 months of expenses worth of savings. i.e. if your expenses every month are $2000, you are good with $10000 coz you can survive another 5 months without job...

Nice read...

The book says to save a 1000 or 2000 for emergencies, then to save up to 25000 so that it's easy later on to purchase a property or a large investment. The whole book is based on someone making a 50,000 dollar salary which I do not. So for me, I have the emergency fund but working towards saving 25000 is a challenge so I am starting with 10,000. Also, I have learned from another book to always pay yourself the first 10%. This is an amazing thing to follow. It has helped me save and spend less. Minimalistic doesn't necessarily have to be lonely (though I can see what you mean, I definitely don't like to spend money going out to clubs and drinking when many of my friends do so they don't ask me to go out anymore lol) though because you don't have to give up everything. If lunch with your friends once a week or twice a month is something that brings you joy then you don't have to give that up. But if you're spending hundreds of bucks on shoes or clothes or makeup or things like that then that's a bigger problem. He says to focus on bigger expenses anyway, to cut back when you can but without giving up things that bring you joy. Just being more aware of every purchase and recognizing that it can either set you back or help move you forward. Just got to figure out which is worth it!

Calculate your monthly need.. if you need $2000 a month, then u need to save $10000 for emerfency fund...
Everything else, you need to invest... so that you can earn more from that..
