Oh my... I have issues remembering everything I've read... as a kid I read every book in the house... and I always thought the thing I was reading at the moment was the best thing ever.
Some of the non so popular ones that I loved where Recollections of a Picture Dealer and Percusión y Tomate.
One shows that art isn't as emotional as people think and the other is weird af xD

Personal opinion: I think that the best books ever written aren't necessarily the popular ones.
The one about art are the memories of a merchant that shows how they even changed the named of paints to match the interest of the buyer, for example a "María" would become a "Aphrodite" between a possible buyer and another. They even changed names when they inscribed the paint on a exhibition but sold it, so they can send a different one but under that same name, and then other things about the artists of the time.
Percusión y Tomate is about a writer that wants to write a autobiography but thinks her life is not interesting enough, so she starts mixing the narration of all of this with reality and things she imagine. She's a ventriloquist too... can't even explain that book, so weird xD and places in my country but she even changes things because she says the real place is not interesting enough.
I also had a book about people with wristbands that are assigned since birth determining if they are brilliant, liars, murderers, etc... but I forgot the name
You got me really excited about the latter. I hope I can find an English translation to it.

No idea if there is an english version, my explorer only shows spanish ones :/

I think "Percusión y Tomate" is the most interesting suggestion that I have received.
I tried to find it online. But, I could only find the Spanish version of the book.
I'm also looking for an English version but looks like there isn't one yet... maybe there has not been people asking for it because It's too local, and usually you see things about the idiosyncrasy of Europeans and North american do good on sales and other countries but not so much the other way around. Just a guess.
You know, I have read online reviews of the book. A lot of people are saying it is a rare gem.
I think, being in different side of the world, reading something from your culture will widen my perspective more than any other publication.
