RE: HBD interest rate

don't you think we should be a better and stronger community if the top witnesses had a monthly meeting or something like that, where they discussed Hive community issues, strategies, etc, and let all community know what they think about subjects not just related with code, node and servers.

Personally, I think having some form of 'regular meeting' of the Top 20 (or Top however-many) witnesses is a bad idea. I would rather see each witness independently seek input from the community, rather than all of them meeting together and making decisions based on each other's perceptions.

It would be cool if each of them independently hosted regular AMAs, but they should not intentionally do so together, IMHO.

Witnesses regularly meeting together leads to centralization, or at least the perception thereof.

Sort:

I strongly believe we should reduce the # of witness votes each $HIVE token gets, from 30 to something significantly less than 20. In my HiveFest presentation (at 03:31), I recommended 5.

The current system (30 votes, when 20 make all the decisions) gives too much power to top stakeholders, thus centralizing a process that need not be so centralized.

My recommendation is that the number of votes should be about 1/4 the number of decision-making validators. So, with the Top 20 making all the decisions, each $HIVE token should get 5 witness votes. If we ever increase the number of decision-making validators, then the number of witness votes should increase proportionately (e.g. 25 votes if the Top 100 witnesses are relied upon for consensus-based decision-making).
