Would you have seen the gold if you came across it?

The way to discovery, or at least a way to discover, is in the observation of patterns. What belongs here? What have I not seen before?

To be able to see patterns and find the rarest, the scarce, and perhaps the most desirable, you need to be able to see in the first place.

Sometimes seeing what we assume is a fractal, such as the seeming compulsion a large number of people have to purchase a certain item, is enough to profit. Other times it takes looking at more complex dynamics to be able to make market/demand predictions, and sometimes it's enough to just walk through a field with seeing eyes to spot a gemstone.

The first person to usually find the gold nugget was not looking for it. The first person to usually find the gold nugget is not necessarily interested in finding more or in selling that one nugget. That first person, upon finding that unknown thing, might simply become obsessed with its rarity and do nothing else with this discovery.

That first person, the Sightseer, is just out for a stroll in the world. They do what they do, and if they must be judged I guess it should be on the terms of their biology.

Sightseers, because they travel a lot, often come across Explorers. It is Explorers who would later turn into miners and find more shiny stones and perhaps even make rings to sell out of them. Both strollers and seekers have great sight in the sense that they both exercise their birthright to experience in detail, even if only in imagination.

It is possible to both stroll and seek through life, at least I'd like to hope so. In my own observation of patterns I have found that people aren't only one thing, they have many aspects to their personality, drive, being, their soul.

It helps me to think that everyone is capable of both enjoying a walk in the field without time to consider, and also able to spend the next day or so in that very field digging by hand and only stopping for biology.

My closest friend, I've known him for almost a decade, thinks we should spend more time day trading. I know he just wants quick money because he has a kid on the way, but I also know he regrets not being more of an explorer and is dreading that his exploration time will come to an end with the birth of his first child.

While it is true that time is sometimes sensitive in the creation of markets, it is not true that a human being ever has to stop seeking...or attempting to achieve moments of revelation and even fulfillment by just strolling around.
