Manual Curation
I've spent the last two days manually curating every post on LeoFinance. While this task has proven to be quite time consuming, it has also been rewarding. Of course I have earned great curation rewards for my efforts, but I have also been rewarded with knowledge.
How I Manually Curated Every Post
If you are a member of the Leo community, its very helpful to use the Leo Discord. The Leo Discord is always active and a great place to get questions answered. The only way I was able to curate every post is by using the LeoFinance-Post-Stream channel. @gerber has a bot that posts every blog posted using LeoFinance.io on this channel. Without this amazing channel, I imagine I would have missed more than half of the great content I curated (and even more of the shitposts I came across).
What I learned
I've learned about some coins that I previously didn't know existed. I've also learned more about some coins that I was aware of and in some cases already owned. I learned more about how the amazing ad revenue program for Leo works. I learned that many community members believe BTC will cross 14K soon.
Why I did it
Curation rewards were not my only reason for investing all this time in manual curation. I also wanted to spread the love of my Leo Power around the community. The Leo community is what makes Leo so strong. Of course the amazing Leo team and great leadership don't hurt, but an active, committed and growing community is what will take Leo to new heights. This is why I chose to invest my time and Leo Power manually curating to increase and reward interaction. It felt good to reward those who are being active and creating content.
Ask Not What Leo Can Do For You, but What You Can Do For Leo
I believe everyone has something to offer to this great community. You don't have to be a great content creator like @rollandthomas to help the community. Your interaction with posts can help the community, even if you don't have a whale's share of Leo Power. Read, comment, vote. Bring your friend's to LeoFinance. Leo is only as strong as its community. Help keep this community strong and growing!
Thanks for reading. I hope to have a chance to manually curate your posts!

Nicely done! Glad to have involved in the LEO ecosystem. Now, going to see if I can catch you on dCity. ;)
Thanks! The growth of my city has slowed down due to my involvement with Leo, but I expect my growth to pick back up when the third edition comes out!

It is time consuming yet it does produce results. Over the last week or so, the engagement on Leofinance is increasing. I believe this has a great deal to do with people manually curating (and while they are there, leaving a comment). This helps the smaller accounts which will only make Leo more resilient as an ecosystem.
I like to read the posts from other parts of the world. We can garner great insight into the views from others areas and how it contrasts with those from our own countries.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I have enjoyed reading posts from other countries too, A lot of the silver-gold stackers here are from all over the place.
A lot of thanks to you for that with your 10 comments idea!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I appreciate that @tbnfl4sun.
However, it is something that takes a team (community?) to pull off. I can propose the ideas and do my best to set the tone but others have to join in. I tried to do it on Hive without much success.
On LEO, the results have been much better. Perhaps the fact that many of us are upvoting comments is also helping. Either way, it is great to see the engagement started to increase.
Let us do all we can to keep it up.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
At some point in time at the chain named ... interaction was driven by users adopting the culture of voting for comments. Somehow this culture is binned at HIVE. Interestingly, when at HIVE I leave comments to posts of users who rarely comment, they usually respond to my comments, some with a simple and short comment, but others with valuable comments which keeps the conversation going. It all cost time, therefore being rewarded for (some of the) comments definitely helps to get people to spend the time. We for sure need engagements on posts, otherwise the value of posting becomes more and more the monetary rewards. THough the monetary rewards should not be the prime goal why to be part of a community like Leo, or HIVE for that matter.

Taskmaster's commenting initiative has done wonders for the community's engagement. I will try to follow his great example and comment more.

It is great to learn from parts of the world that I would not get the chance to without this blockchain.

It's incredible what a seemingly small change can do to the whole ecosystem. I mean the curations rewards. Many people are now manually curating and actually reading other posts. It has proven to work and it shows the power of the community.
Same goes with everyone who really drives a car and knows that manual is the best.
Same for interaction. In fact, interaction can only be manual.
BOI out. Have a lovely day!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
You are totally right. I would be using auto voting to max my rewards if they had not switched to manual. Maybe my next car should be a manual...
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Hehe, glad to hear! Maybe you'd enjoy the car!

What you and other whales are doing for this community is something I dreamed of for many years on Steem, and now Hive. I always hated bots and auto votes and everything automation related. I know it can be exhausting to do it all manually, but for sure it is rewarding and as you mentioned it's not wasted time as you really learn stuff. At least I do...
Oh and I also fully agree with you that every community member has something to offer, not including occasional spammers and scammers of course. I came to this community with the same goals, intention and attitude as I did with Steem almost three years ago and that's content creation, my best possible. Be it blog posts, comments or occasional shit posts, I share what's the best of me for that day and I try doing it daily. That's what I bring to the table... and I highly appreciate your curation on my posts.
Thanks, have a good day and roar loud!

It was quite sad before when I couldn't earn as much by manually curating. It forced me to use the auto voting bots and thus distanced myself from the entire community. This new system is great for everyone!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
That is a lot of time curating, I have been doing it that way too. I know I miss a lot of posts but I try to see most of them. I wish there was a power multiplier coin so you could regenerate voting power faster. lol
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It sure was a lot of time. I like your idea of a power multiplier coin. I guess you could just power up a bunch more Leo and that will help out your voting power.

Hard to catch everything but we can only do so much.
The effort is what is important. If 50% of the Leo users did that, we would have one of the most thriving ecosystems in all of crypto.
Activity is key, something that seems lacking in the crypto world.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It is hard to catch everything, but that discord channel sure makes it easier. Short of following every user, I'm not even sure how it would be possible to catch near all the posts without that channel.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yes I tend to go through the recent section to try and catch as many of the newer posts as I can. It can be a tedious exercise but that is where newer people are located.
Gotta do what we can to spread the token distribution out.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
One of the coolest things about curating is learning. The knowledge we have acquired is very good through reading the articles.
Engagement plus curation contributes to the LEO ecosystem becoming increasingly prosperous. Let more people join the cause and it is always good to see more users committing themselves.

Leo finance is a great source of info for sure!
@rollandthomas is great in the Leo Finance podcasts, he's got a real knack of asking the right questions!
I never knew about that Discord stream channel,
Ahh Discord, where would be without it!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It's funny that I resisted using Discord for so long. I remember when steemmonsters tournaments could only be entered through discord, so I didn't even bother trying them out. Now its hard to imagine where I would be without it. I was actually turned onto Leo by friend's I have made on Discord!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Oh that is interesting!
I don't exactly hang out there a lot but I've defo got more and more sucked in!
I've found the private messaging system to be quite useful too!
And some of the shows are worth hanging out in!

Congratulations for your job!
I saw your Encouragement voting on my post. Thank you.
I seem that we will do vote, comment/reply on Good contents to alive more strong LEO Community.

Awesome work, I always love to see others manually curating. I also scan through all the posts every day as I do the curating for @leo.voter and also from this account for the homepage.
Rewarding great content and engagement is one of the core pillars for the platform's growth. I'm also excited about the upcoming curation pages that will show who other users have been upvoting. That way, we could also follow along your curation page and see a feed exclusively for content that @themightyvolcano has voted. I think it will bring about some interesting ways to read and discover content.
launching in ~2 weeks :)

You do that manually as well? Nice... I thought @leo.voter was a bot :). Man I really love this platform as I am a sucker for organic growth, curation and interaction.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Haha yep, @leo.voter is full manual 😎

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
These curation pages sound awesome! Manually following someones curration is infitely better for everyone than the old ways of automated curation trails. You continue to amaze me with all the great updates. Keep up the great work!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Good thinking using the bot on Discord to keep track of the new posts being published. What you have done is not only to support authors, distribute tokens far and wide and strengthen the community. You have also encouraged people and given them motivation to put in that little extra amount of effort. That's the power of an upvote, and the power of being seen and acknowledged. Well done!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thank you! I'm doing what I can to help the community.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I almost read all the post 4-5 times in a week so there are very little post that are left out by me.I also manually curate but do not rely on gerber. I just do https://leofinance.io/created
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thanks for teaching me! I did not know https://leofinance.io/created existed! I'll be sure to check it out.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Benefit is that, you will see the post that are posted in "Leo finance" without using native interface. Gerber feed is for post that are created on Leo interface.
Even before Leo you are one of a kind that gives with your upvotes. You and @gank welcome!
The only difference is before most of my votes were auto votes. Now I actually read the content and even engage with the community.

what I like about Leofinance is that the big stakeholders are manual editors and also pay attention to comments to support the interaction of each post.
I agree that the Discord channel is very useful for reading the posts published on Leofinance and staying up to date 🤓🤓
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
The flat curation curve really did wonders for the community. Previously you would have been giving up too much value to manually curate with a large stake. It is one of the many things making Leo great.

Quite a feat to get done.
I applaud you for even trying.

I've switched over to manual curation and am manually curating your post here lol.
But yes, it's really cool that big stake holders are doing this on LF. Not only do the curators benefit in the ways you mention (learn new stuff, get to know the community and the type of posts folk put out), the practice encourages engagement and attracts new users as many more accounts get to grow faster than they would if big-stake curators just pumped out 10 votes per day for their 50% (or even 100% if it's the kind of shitpost-selfvoting that used to go on in the ol' days of Steem).
Of such things - IMO - is 'Abundance' composed.
Thank You TMV

Manual curating can be very rewarding, though it also takes time. For more than three years I manually curate the music section on HIVE. Music is my passion, so that keeps me going. Almost every day at least one hour spend. Recently I started to get renewed interest in crypto, trading, investing and all, and try to go through posts at LeoFinance as well, at least 4 to 5 times a week. And when I spend time reading the post, or watching the video; I most of the time comment as well with some valuable comment (valuable for myself, for the post author, or for other users reading the post and comments). So much information we can take away from what other post and talk about. And I do 100% agree with you. The value of Leo will be driven by how strong the Leo community is; This strenght is shown by not only giving value to those posts that adds value, but also by interacting with the community through the posts (posts and comments are visible to all, discord is not though its a great way of interacting with the Leo community as well). That said, I still have to pay my first visit to the Leo discord. You have an invite, or server name for me?

That must have been a huge task, but I reckon it was worth the curation, and you've learned some things along the way. I've seen the post stream bot in the leo discord, so much better than these post drop channels!

I'm a bit late for this post, but I'm commenting anyway.
How true that is! I wish more people could think like that. Not long ago I had a discussion with a user who was detailing what a certain community can do for their post. All this under my post, in which I was telling users what I did for the community. Well, I guess we're different, some like to give, other like to get.
Anyway, I really appreciate what you did and do for the community. It's really amazing! And sorry for the late reply, have a nice day :)

You're doing a great job at curating. I've run into your account amongst the top upvoters in most awesome posts. Personally, I'm not big on discord, as I prefer conversations on the chain but I check on the discord room from time to time

I know this post is old but I must confess to the fact that it motivates me to want to invest my time more on this platform. The fact that you invest your time curating is more reason for me to invest my time creating
