One thing about flying camera drones is that you don't get the same feel of the flight in the same way with the phone attached to the controller, versus going full FPV style with some VR goggles! I have been flying my freestyle drones with goggles, so I wanted the same feel with my camera drone!
I went on good ole Amazon and found a pair of VR goggles the your phone fits into for only $20! So for such a cheap price, I couldn't turn it down to be able to get the feeling of being in the cockpit, plus I won't be teaching myself bad habits like trying to look up at the drone while in the air.
The front of it opens up and you align the middle of the screen to fit between the lenses. VR apps or in this case, the VR mode on the drone app, splits the screen in half and the lenses line it up, kind of like binoculars. So it's super easy to get it set up. You can then focus the lenses and you are ready to rock! I will say that the one thing you lose is the ability to use the onscreen controls and you don't see things like your distance, height, etc, so you just have to make sure you don't hit anything, lol.
So, if you have a camera drone like a DJI or something like my Ruko, and your app gives you a VR mode, I HIGHLY recommend getting a pair of VR goggles like this for your phone. I am not shilling a particular product or brand, just the option of the goggles themselves so that you can get that full FPV feel when flying your GPS camera drone!
Anyway, just wanted to share my fun hobby with you guys! I am going this week to my buddy's house and getting him to help me get my freestyle drones back in the air... He's much better at building these things than I am at this point, so I better let the expert do it, lol!
