I criticize Etherem a lot for how it basically sold its users out to centralized companies called "L2s" that can censor on a whim.
But it's undeniable that Ethereum, and EVM, have massively innovated in the space.

Yep the crypto world would look very different right now without Ethereum. I don't believe a truly decentralized system will ever take off to be honest with you and it's a pipe dream.
I'm much more optimistic, because of how close we've come.
We just have to get it all the way right next time. On-chain governance (a DAO) would have prevented Bitcoin and Ethereum's problems.
DeFi, programmable stablecoins, DAOs, tons of other stuff.
The possibilities are endless in crypto, and we owe a lot of that to Ethereum for starting us off down the path of "do literally anything awesome." 🍻
