Much like the electromagnetic launch system, these systems would cut down on fuel costs. During a traditional rocket launch, a great deal of fuel and energy is required to reach escape velocity and fly to orbit.

These new experimental systems would generate much of that energy via the launch pad – or in SpinLaunch’s case, the centrifuge. This would greatly cut down on fuel costs.

What’s more, according to Li Ping, president of the Ziyang Commercial Space Launch Technology Research Institute, Galactic Energy’s electromagnetic launch pad technology could double payload capacity. The launch track would also require less maintenance than a traditional launch pad. This would enable a high launch cadence.
